Transmission issues scaring me off
Call me old school but I still love to hear the sound of the engine and a good exhaust note.
At the end of the day, a hurracan owner who was behind us pulled up to me to tell me that my car sounds amazing, while ignoring the existence of the C63s. And that is saying something.

But I would like to know if there is a way to get that SICK AMG PE sound in other (non S+) modes. I've pressed the PE button on in sport and comfort and it doesn't give off that explosion like it does in S+, which is slightly sad. Because I'd like to get better gas mileage if I can. Otherwise my coupe will always have to be driven in S+ and give me the same mpg as a H1 Hummer :-/

What I'm experiencing:
- If accelerating hard (normal/sport/sport+ - doesn't seem to matter) - SOME of the time when going from 2 into 3 it doesn't engage for a second and and then recovers.
- About the 4th day I drove it I believe it went into something called "Limp Mode" - the transmission got stuck in 2nd, the paddle shifters wouldn't work and I drove home in 2nd. Shut the car off and started up again in 20 minutes and I haven't seen that happen again, so I took it in.
They said they saw error codes and did an update - but when I got it back it was still happening - dropping 3rd. I took it back in yesterday and took the technician out for a drive and was able to reproduce it. He thought it was odd - they are looking at it again.
I assume this is a problem and not something that I should "live with" - correct?
don’t listen to all that TIPS crap. Go straight to the Head Kraut in charge at AMG. They know of, and understand the problem. The intermediaries will **** on your leg and tell you it is raining. Mine was fixed with custom firmware, and a tech tuning it on a 20 mile drive with a laptop connected. Fixed! Beware the clowns.
Tips is a good resource as it makes it easy to find fixes to common issues. If the issue isn't actually what the listed items address though, then more research is needed. If you open an engineering case, the first thing they will do is tell you to follow whatever existing bulletins there are.
There is actually a TIPS document relating to AMG specific adaptation drives, which are an engineering only function. Has to do with the parameters the dealer is actually able to see and reset, vs. what is actually in there.
If you are able to reproduce it for the tech, that's great, as they can't say it's normal. It should shift consistently at all times, if it's hanging up or kicking out of gear, that's not right at all.
When we got back to the dealer I had the manager make note of it, waiting to hear back from him as he said he'd call a rep and see if they have corrected it in the 18's with different software or whatever.
Seriously sucks, this car is everything I want but I'm not about to drop 75k on something that drives like that under certain circumstances. Makes me reconsider the 2018 S5 SB.

Lol, is this the issue everyone's been complaining about at 1:25 in the video? Pretty obvious that it has to do with being in a very low gear and not being careful with the throttle. Probably worse because of the fixed gear AWD system, too. Looks like he was going about 25 to 30 mph in first gear when the car became a bucking bronco

I know the truth hurts.
