Wheel & Tire Insurance

I leased a 2017 c43 less than 2 months ago. Already "popped" a tire, even though I can't remember when I hit a pothole big enough to cause it.

Thinking if I should purchase wheel and tire ins now. Dealer quoted $1795. Any suggestions?

I debated on this as well and opted to skip it and removed/stored the RFTs and put some Michelin PS4S and a pump/slime kit instead.

I have he insurance and used it last week to replace a 19" P0 RFT. Had it done at a MB dealer and the experience was relatively painless and quick. While I avoided paying ~$300 for the tire I am still not sure the insurance was a wise choice.

I've been advised that if you replace the RFT with Michelin pilots, that they will replace it with the same tire..

I'll believe that when it happens. They don't even stock those tires..

I have a 2016 C450. In December last year I hit a decent-size pothole and it completely destroyed my front right 19" tire and left a very large dent in the rim.

I took the rim to a place on the west side of Cleveland and they were able to repair and resurface it. It looked good as new. Cost: $325.

I had purchased all my tires from TireRack.com and I invoked the warranty b/c the tire was less than 2 years old. I got my new tire. Cost: zero.

I did have to get my steering re-aligned by the MB dealer. Cost: about $150. The MB dealer was super nice, gave me a free loaner for a few days because my rim was blown and they couldn't repair it.

The real pain in the *** however is that, after hitting the pothole, your car is not driveable and there is no spare. I did not have run-flats on, I hate them.

If the wheel & tire insurance were cheaper, say $900, I'd say it'd be worth it. But the $2k they quote is just too high considering the cost of resurfacing and/or repairing an alloy rim.

Wouldn't the solution be for them to order it?

Thx for responding. I paid $400 to replace one tire. I live in Long Island, NY. Im leaning towards not adding the insurance. Hoping the first popped tire is an anomaly. Prev drove an x5 for 4 years and 2 diff A4s for 6 years. Only had one popped tire.

I recommend you get it if it’s under $1500 for 3-4 years.

My previous car I opted out and had 3 fun flat tires get bubbles and two bent rims. Each tire cost me $350 and each Rim cost $300 to fix.

This time around I got the package for $1500. I just had curb rash from parking and it was fixed in 1.5 days. I have a feeling my tires will bubble this winter.

Who is the provider you guys are using for the wheel/tire insurance? I want to buy a plan on a used C450 I'm purchasing after I read about all the wheel/tire issues everyone is having.

I would think its nearly impossible to damage a suv rim/tire? Those things have so much rubber and are much bigger than average potholes, no?

@alexasa Well tbh, I blew my Michelin ps4 and I had the tire and warranty package and they replaced my aftermarket tire under warranty as well they are suppose to contact Michelin and deal w all the paper work that’s Mercedes Benz’s headache not yours But tbh I just drive careful now and avoid potholes cause it took them 1 busniess week to get my aftermarket tire ordered and warrantied , a lot of times they are lazy so they will try to find shortcuts and by they, I mean Mercedes Benz dealerships, I removed my run flats and stock rims so long ago cause they would always be so weak And break lol use your warranty even for aftermarket tires since it’s allowed, there’s loopholes and ways to get around the dealerships, they are also supposed to cover your aftermarket tires but they won’t tell you that, I learnt by being friends and nice to my service advisor heck they even warranty my car even tho it’s tuned And don’t void it 😂🤤😎😌

MORAL OF THE STORY
BE NICE TO THE SERVICE ADVISORS TRUST ME THEY HAVE MORE POWER THEN YOU THINK AT MERCEDES BENZ
