Laser Jammer
hi all — I am new to this forum and nice to meet you all. I just picked up a 2018 C43, and have a few things I would like to post on re ceramic coatings, etc...
The more pressing issue is that I got a hefty speeding ticket this weekend (Laser), and my Escort Max 360c never even made a peep. I am thinking it’s time to go with laser jammers.
Anyone have any experience, reccomendations, thoughts, suggestions on the topic? Would be great to get first hand experience from folks on what units they liked and best installation practices and location on the W205. The jammers are incredibly sensitive to quality installation.

I've only seen one in person...the old Escort 9500 Shifter setup. It apparently worked quite well for the friend that owned. A quick Google search lead me to this also, but hot damn it's pricey...

If you want pictures of my setup, just send me a pm.

I have the Passport 9500ci on my 43. I run two front diffusers and one rear. It’s an older unit, but it works great. If you want a good deal, buy used on Craigslist or EBay. A good install runs $500+, don’t go to Cartoys.

Forum won’t let me send these as a pm. Front diffusers are attached to the top of the lower grill.

The ALP unit is one of the best one on the market. Police are using newer laser guns and most older laser jammers cannot detect them. Escort gave up a few years ago in keeping up, they actually subcontract their laser jammers to another company. I used to have the 9500ci units and loved them at the time. ALP is constantly updating the firmware to keep up with newer guns.

Wait, isn’t laser really difficult to counter because it’s not a constant beam?
For example, if there are no other cars in front wouldn’t it be difficult to detect the laser until it’s too late?

that is precisely the point of the jammer, as soon as it hits the target vehicle it sends a corresponding pulse of infrared light back which confuses the gun. And to your question regarding no cars in front it being impossible to detect — you can take that a step further at least 50% of the time your own radar detector wouldn’t pick it up given how compact the beam is, and even if it did it would just be telling you that you are about to be pulled over.

the ALP seems to be the best and most reliable, though the new Escort ZR5/ZW5 seems to be pretty good as well except against one type of gun that is not very prevalent (yet at least) (I think it’s called a DragonEye). The new escort unit is made my Blinder and is re-branded.

Kidding of course.
In VA even radar detectors are illegal.

Wink wink
officer it’s just a parking sensor. Yes I know Mercedes has elaborate sensors but some how I just needed more for my piece of mind. My paint is so flawless I would be crushed if I bumped into anything.

Yeah, I have seen that most agree these days that as an overall detector the R3 is a class leader. That being said, it is totally defeneseless against laser and the way Escort integrates with their last generation of shifters is a more elegant solution (albeit probably not the most effective, which would be ALP).

Veil
has anybody tried Veil the laser anti reflective coating ??
supposed to give you precious seconds to slow down when illuminated.
Also so one of the radar testing sites says valentine has the best laser warning. Much better than Uniden.

i heard Veil isn’t worth the effort and looks not great. In terms of V1 being good at laser warning, that’s true but you still bought a ticket by the time it detects it.

Thought I would share the pictures of the result of this endeavor, for those in the northeast I have an excellent installer DM me if you want his information.
Escort ZW5, for a very clean and tidy installation but that should actually work (eg, not behind grill (might as well not even have them), shifters off axis, etc...).
