OBII TUNING

Has anyone installed a tune with the My Genius device into the OBII port? Some feedback as to how they perform compared to the ecu tunes would be helpful. The ability to download different tunes without opening the hood of your car is an advantage.I wonder how the performance compares to an ecu tune.

I'm not familiar with the My Genius device. Most people on this forum will point you to Burger Tuning JB4 or Racechip for chip tuning.

Eurocharge,OE,& AMR are all offering tunes using the My Genius device which downloads the tune through the OBII port. I am familiar with all the tuners for the C450, but I wanted to know if anyone has installed a tune with the MY Genius and what results they obtained. It does not require removal of the ECU or installing a piggyback. You don't even have to open the hood.It sounds like an easy, clean way to tune your car.

Eurocharged Performance ML63 and TT lambo
The mygenius applies the exact same file as if you would bring it in to one of our dealers to bench flash!

We have a pretty stout sale as well if you are interested. Just drop me a pm

Hi Oldman! How've you been?
So I got a C43 this time and went back to OE Tuning to get the tune done like I did on my C400, but this time did it with the MyGenius tuner. It's actually an old process as I've used the tuner in the past on my old 2011 C63.
Relatively simple and straight forward. Jeremy at OE is awesome and he includes three tunes with it. Valet, 91 & 100 octane. I opted for a valet, 91 & 94 tune as we have the 94 stuff up here and I'll never use a 100 tune. Jeremy accommodated me no prob. @SALES@OETUNING
It wasn't an option when I got the C400 tuned, but it would have been nice to have been able to remove the tune as someone out there has a C400 without knowing it's tuned.. lol.
Cheers!

I am doing fine for an old codger. I have been laying low for a while, but the bug is starting to bite me again for more power. I like the idea of installing a tune without even opening the hood. That's
why the My Genius method interest's me.Have you had any quirks's(cel, limp mode etc) with your tune? Is this the tune that you got you the 12.23 et ?

I've been laying low too!
No issues with the tune at all. It's pretty much the same tune as the C400, but I now have both the 91 & the 94 tune. The C400 was the 91 tune and I ran the 12.20 with it, so I'm hoping to do better with the C43 since it's running the 94 tune, and it has the 9 speed tranny as opposed to the 7 speed.
It definitley is more aggressive, but in a good way. Drives just like stock, which was the same with the C400.

If you don't mind me asking, about what does that cost? It looks like it's about $1200? Horsepower/torque increase? Based on your experience how does it compare to an ECU tune? Thx

Hey,

Can you break down the advantages and disadvantages of these different tunes ? Piggyback vs OB tuning. I am a novice and curious to know what my options would be. There's not much information around detailing the pros and cons, plus personal experience with each.

Just to be clear... it is still an ECU tune.. it's just done through the OBD port so they don't have to open the ECU and you don't have to send it to them.

Piggy back will never be as powerful as an ECU tune, but some people like the piggybacks because it is totally undetectable once removed because it is modifying parameters outside of the ECU.

Thanks for the clarification DVision44. I didn’t articulate my question well.
Is there any difference between taking it out and having a third party tune the ECU vs. the OBD port? Or, what is the tune using the OBD port? Horsepower/torque gain, limiter removal, cost difference etc?

Taking the ECU out to "bench flash" or using the tuner via the OBD2 port is exactly the same result. Just way more convenient to do via the OBD2 port because you can switch tunes or put back to stock whenever you want.

Thanks uptownman! I found what I was looking for on their website. I actually did check them out previously but only found the pricing info for some reason. All the detail is outlined as you mentioned on their website. Thx

Thank you!

It also appears piggy back is usually cheaper as well. Dinan has a tune for $300 for example and it's a piggy back.

What about the long term risk associated with these tunes ? damage to the engine etc ?

Very true...and even other ECU tunes that are not using the OBD route can be found much cheaper such as RaceChip's for about $400-$800 depending on the horsepower gains you are trying to achieve. Cool we have so many options though!
