C43 2017
Potential New Owner

I currently own a 2015 Lexus IS350 F sport with some goodies and looking for something a bit better like the C43 AMG. I test drove one the other day and really like the feel of the car- power is great, styling is sexy, and comfortable .

I have some questions for you long time members and would appreciate some feedback.

1. How reliable are the C43 AMG? I will be dallying the car ( 20k miles a year) and am also coming from a Lexus lol but don't want the car to be in the shop all the time.
2. Anything to look for when i purchase a used one? Certain years to avoid?
3. What are some known issues? I saw that the tiring wearing seems to be a problem in the MB world as well. Are there aftermarket bushings available to help the tire wear?
4. I had asked the sales adviser if these car burns oil and he mentioned to me that all C43 AMG burn oil and need to be topped off between oil changes. Is this true?
5. What are some options are a must have with the car?
6. Extended warranty worth it? Planning to keep the car till 100k

2019 C43 AMG
AMG Performance Exhaust is the only option I say is 100% needed.

seemingly very reliable drivetrain
2. Anything to look for when i purchase a used one? Certain years to avoid?
Just don't get a c400. Mechanically little has changed since the C450 iteration with the 9 speed transmission in 2017+ being the major difference (I had a c450 and I don't think the 7 speed was bad at all)
3. What are some known issues? I saw that the tiring wearing seems to be a problem in the MB world as well. Are there aftermarket bushings available to help the tire wear?
Just get different wheels/tires and factor it in from the get go - the old set should sell for a good portion of what the new set-up would cost - went through tires in like 7 - 12k and bent a few rims in the process all covered under warranty with some fussing
4. I had asked the sales adviser if these car burns oil and he mentioned to me that all C43 AMG burn oil and need to be topped off between oil changes. Is this true?
haven't heard or experienced this, drove about 17k/year and did oil changes at 10k intervals as manual dictates
5. What are some options are a must have with the car?
subjective - but if you like music I'd try to get the upgraded sound system - even it is a bit underwhelming but the base system is actual garbage
6. Extended warranty worth it? Planning to keep the car till 100k
Not sure how many people are high mileage - but 50k cars seem to have been reliable.
hope this helps.

2018 C43 Cabriolet
1 - I've had zero problems in 1 year and 14000 kms
2 - Its only been available since 2017
3 - My tires are barely worn after 1 year
4 - No need to add oil between 16000 km regular oil change
5 - All together now - " AMG performance exhaust is essential " !!
6 - I think the extended warranty is worth including in the negotiations for peace of mind - its also useful if you trade in early
To put things in perspective, my one and only complaint with this car is only being able to open the trunk with the key fob or the switch on the drivers door !

Just hit 30k miles. I've done the following so far...

- Oil changes on schedule, but done at home in my garage
- Front factory Continental runflat tires were roached at about 14k miles. Replaced with Michelin AS3+'s in front only. Rear Conti's are about done and will be replaced with AS3+'s. YMMV.
- Replaced rear brake pads at 30k, fronts still have a good amount of meat. Rotors still well within spec but will be changed along with front pads at 40k interval. YMMV...many have had their complete pad/rotors done way sooner.
- Airbag recall service
- ECU update/TSB
- Center console arm rest button trim was peeling and replaced under warranty
- Overhead console/dome light was rattling and replaced under warranty

Would personally aim for a 2017+ because of the transmission update to the 9G.

Ditto all this. I also picked the ext warranty just for peace of mind!

Reference the trunk, once I got used to it the little kick under the bumper is the easiest way for me to pop the trunk. Just need to have the fob on you.

2019 AMG C43 Sedan
AMG performance exhaust is a must for sure. The 360 camera in the parking package is nice too if that's something you'd be looking for.

Thanks all!

Should opt for the 2019 since it makes more power (bigger turbos) and save a bit and get a 2017 with a tune?

They seem to go the same in real world conditions.. just depends on what you want from the car.

Goal is eventually to go full bolt on - tune, down-pipes, exhaust. Don't want to want to run a tune where I end up getting more problems in return on running an aggressive map on the tune
