For all tuned C43 owners, which gas station do you go? Canada specifically.
Hello guys, for those who tuned your cars whether ECU flashed or just piggyback-ed, which gas station do you usually go? Specifically in Canada. I installed a Racechip piggyback tune 2 years ago and they said only use 93+ octane gas if I wanted to use the max settings (map6 and 7). So since then I’ve been pumping in Petrocan’s Ultra 94 with up to 10% ethanol for every gas fillup. But I’ve heard some people saying that ethanol is bad for our cars and Shell’s 91 V-power (no ethanol) is better. Since in my region Shell doesn’t sell 93+ octane gas, I’m hesitant to put their 91 with tune. So here are my options: PetroCanada Ultra 94 (E10), maybe Shell 91 if it runs ok with tune, or Chevron 94 (no ethanol). By the way my region is approximately 2000ft above sea level if this has to be taken into account.

I have run Shell 91 (no ethanol) and Petro 94 and it could be just me, but I felt that Shell gave me more power...again no hard data to back that up, just the way my *** felt in the seat. LOL

My car is not tuned but I also felt that Shell made it easier for my car to breathe and therefore more power. It felt smoother for me although seems like the gas burns quicker but I like how much smoother it is over fuel economy. I think the reason it is smother is because it doesn't have ethanol?

I use Shell as daily because of the E0 but when I take it out to rip I use Petro.
I ran tests, Petro produces more power because of advanced timing with the 94 octane. But the benefits of shell is more KMs and seems to be louder and pop more.

Nice. So the gain from 94 octane still looks promising if there is a tune. And using *** is a really nice way to measure hahahaha😂😂😂

Quoting real results, 11.99 on 93 octane and Map 2, then 11.86 on Map 3, both times in the cold, with marginal roads. Map 3 is 1/2 lb more boost, so not going to get that much more out of it.

Have not done a track day where I didn't run 94, so can't compare ... and I don't consistently push the car on the streets to notice any difference (it's that "floor it for more than 1-5 seconds and you're into impound speed" issue).

Because the engine is being constantly pushed, I always run Chevron 94 on track days ... but I buy it at a station that's close to the track. Since not that many people are normally going to pay the extra for 94, it's possible for the fuel to sit in the station's tank for a long time ... not good. Buying it at the station near the track guarantees they sell a _lot_ of 94. $;-))

Shell 91 v power with nitrogen has the same energy output as petro 94 and esso 93. I’m not sure why this isn’t told to people who get tunes, but yea shell 91 is the equivalent of 93/94 octane because it has extremely high compression ratios.

Not sure where you got that from but Shell 91 doesn't run nearly as well as petro 94 in both my 340i and my C43. In fact i get massive timing pulls on the B58 in my 340i on shell 91.

Well shell 91 v power isn’t the same 91 u get from esso or petro, it’s equivalent to petrocan 94 but with 0 ethanol and every time I run it I get better mileage. Also did I mention 0 ethanol on shell 91 which is huge for the health of your engine. Jay Leno has a really good video on how bad ethanol is for your car when you let it sit around even for short periods of time. >>>>

Now, ethanol itself is not bad for an engine. It's the affinity to water by it and other alcohols that can cause problems by the way of ethanol corrosion. This is due to the elevated levels of water held in the gasoline corroding the internal components of the engine. This however is not really too much of a concern where the infrastructure and distribution networks keep water contamination relatively low.
I actually run E30 (E85 blend) in my BMW as i get really good performance gains compared regular unmixed 91/94. Also thousands of others also do running similar set ups with absolutely zero problems. Saying ethanol is always unhealthy for your engine is just plain wrong.
