Where is that tow eye??

Spun and slid off the road in NE AZ (near Tonalea) Wednesday. Flat bed finally arrived and winched me onto the road and then onto his truck for the ride to Flagstaff for inspection. Would have been a lot tidier if I could have found my tow eye. If I still have it in my car, where would it be found? Thanks.

Spun across the oncoming lane, but zero traffic thankfully.

In my 2019 Sedan it's under a black plastic retainer on the top of the trunk (drivers side).

Glad you are ok. This is why one should read the owners manual and familiarize themselves with the features of the car. As posted above, the towing eye is under the rear shelf in the coupe and sedan and under the trunk floor in the cab.

Well, no wonder I couldn't find it even this morning. Here's what my C-Class Sedan Operator's Manual shows on p. 382:

Thanks to your correct info I found the tow eye in the under-shelf part of the trunk. Don't know why our manuals differ.

Misprint or wrong manual. That's the location for the cab.

Apart from some underbody mud packs, now cleaned, I've found no damage. At the time of the actual incident the road had considerable snow and slush on it, and perhaps ice, which might explain how the car came to be where it is.

I happen to have learned to drive in upstate NY and am (was) very capable of driving 2wd cars in winter conditions before ABS, all season tires and traction control were invented. Maybe this is one of those "black ice" events, or maybe I need to reevaluate my driving skills or just avoid winter driving altogether in this car.

Accidents happen regardless of driving skill or vehicle (obviously more likely to occur on the negative side of either variable). Do not get down on yourself for this accident. Glad to hear there was no discernible damage to the car. Sounds like the best possible outcome for a bad situation.

Glad you’re ok, and glad to know where my tow hook resides. Confirmed it’s where it should be. I always thought mine was missing, since the area under the trunk floor looks incomplete. Figured the dealer removed the hook and tray.
