Question 2019 C43 SEDAN - Panoramic Roof Wind/Squealing Noise

Hey I have a 2019 C43 Sedan and I was wondering if anyone has an issue with wind/squealing noise coming from their panoramic sunroof. It happens at higher speeds and the moment I slightly tilt or open the sunroof the noise goes away.

My windows also freeze in Canadian winters so I am assuming this car is poorly sealed and it is annoying especially in a drive thru. For a Benz you would expect it to be somewhat quiet, comfortable, and classy even though it is a performance car.

A wind/squealing sound on top of a already noisy cabin is just not it.

I've found a couple threads on here addressing this. Lube it with silicon spray. The rubber seals dry out after a few years and this helps.

I've tried this and it did not help. I'm not hearing the sound anymore because the temperatures increased but I know it will come back when it's fall/winter. I spoke to a few people and they said it could be the front panel in front of the panoramic roof (I believe there is a recall for that panel). If anyone has had any experience with this please share.

Update: Pending replacement of the panel in front of the panoramic roof covered by warranty (waiting for the part to come into the dealer as it is backordered).

I also hear some wind noise when u drive in the highway, but I’m not sure if it’s coming from the panoramic roof. How did you get the dealership to acknowledge it’s a problem? My warranty is ending early next year and it’ll be nice to get this rectified beforehand.

I showed them a video of the noise and I am sure they took it for a test drive. The moment I tilt open the panoramic roof the noise goes away.

UPDATE: The dealer is going to replace the front panel before the panoramic roof but it is backordered. Hopefully this fixes the leak and seals my cabin from that high pitch wind sound.

Could you update when you get the chance? I have the same sort of issue but the dealer simply said they could not replicate it and wanted me to get a recording of it. When I did, they felt that they still weren't quite able to do much about it without costing me an arm and a leg just for taking a look at it...

My 2019 does this occasionally. I haven't really paid attention to notice if it's temp related, however, I've noticed that it happens when I'm closing the roof at highway speeds. This is a relatively new "feature", so I'm guessing it's most likely due to seals drying out as previously mentioned. I live in Colorado and it's very dry here. It hasn't bothered me enough to take it to the dealer to get diagnosed but I'll try spraying it with some silicone and see what happens.

I am getting this replaced tomorrow. I had taken a video of mine and showed the service advisor and warranty specialist. They noted is was a common problem and I'm sure they still took it for a test drive to replicate the sound. I'm from Toronto where it is currently around 0 degrees Celsius and some mornings are brutal with it squealing on the highway. They shouldn't be giving you a hard time if its a common problem and not hard to replicate the sound.

I have tried the silicone spray but no luck.

I'm having exactly same high pitched wind noise coming from my panoramic roof. Recently it got colder and the noise appeared. When I tilt the sunroof it goes away. If I open the sunroof blinds and then while the pano is closed I push down on it in the front... noise goes away. Ideas? Sounds like I'm on top of Mount Everest... Also, the panel between windshield and sunroof has looked horrible (delaminated) since car had 10k miles... tried to have it replaced back then and MB advisor refused and said it's fine... now I feel like the glue under that panel is bad and causes that issue and could fly off. Not sure what to do... also out of warranty now 58k miles. Anyone can share WIS manual for C43 pano? @benzdude

I can confirm I had the exact same issue and it was just replaced under warranty. The new panel is supposedly thicker and wont delaminate. The high pitch wind noise/squealing is completely gone.

Sorry maybe I worded that wrong? The wind noise is completely gone after replacing the panel.

Unfortunately the wind noise still appears at around 115km/h or above but it does seem to be a little quieter. I can hear it more towards the right side so now I am starting to think it has something to do with the passenger window/door seals. Strange enough I didn't hear it coming back from the dealership over the weekend and I put my car in the garage to give the panel some extra cure time. I started hearing the noise again driving yesterday and this morning but it is colder than it was over the weekend.

Damn. Thanks for updating. Unfortunate that it's come back. As it's getting colder here as well, the noise is becoming more frequent. I personally haven't tried the silicone spray but will give that a shot. Otherwise, I think I'm just gonna let the issue remain as my car is no longer under warranty and hasn't been for a while.

Yea I would say give the silicone spray a shot. To be more specific and based on my digital cluster outside temperature I have noticed no squealing sound around -1 degrees celsius maybe -2 max even going 130-140km/h. I guess when it drops below -2 celsius the noise starts appearing and louder the faster you go. The squealing is just something I have to deal with myself now and these stupid frozen windows react the same way temperature wise.

Hmmm my bad didn't see the message, well at least it got quieter, better than nothing I guess.

I had the same issue on my 2017 c43 sedan. Wind noise/whistle was bothering me for a couple of months, then I found a post on CLA forum, same problem, and an easy solution that worked for me:
- Open you sunroof (fully roll it back)
- standing outside of the car, look under the sunroof from the front.
- you will see two small bolts over the rail (6 point star head) holding the roof on each side (4 in total)
- mine became loose on one side
- i simply pushed the glass roof from the top to make it travel 1-2 mm down, and tightened the bolts

Took me 5 min and the wind was gone. My better half was really impressed with my mechanic skills , we all hated that whistling noise (it was extremely annoying).

Hope that will work for anybody with a similar issue.

Regards,
Sergey

I find it weird how they made those holes slightly oversized or slotted but I will give this a shot thanks!
