what is this reservoir in the engine
what fluid goes in this reservoir?

Same thing that is leaking out of the other reservoir to its left....with the exact same cap.

Now, why is your coolant leaving under the cap of the expansion tank?

It could be the cap, that was a common issue, if I recalled correctly the cap part number was superseded.

thanks everyone. the coolant color in this reservoir is yellow, compared to the pink to the coolant reservoir to the left. does it use the same coolant? would i need to flush this reservoir?

They are separate cooling loops, but use the same specification of fluid: Mercedes Benz 325.6 specification.

You should flush the yellow fluid and replace it with the correct fluid.
