2006 BMW X5 4.8is and 2005 C55 AMG
I believe it will be called the P30 package not the 030. With that option I'm guessing the car will be around $75K and after tax and licensing your looking at 80K+. Regardless this car will likely be the fastest and best valued V8 AMG you can get unless a SLK63 comes out.

Any chance with addtional mods (ie. headers, exhaust, intake, trottle body, cams, crank shaft, etc.) we could get this car up to 600 or 650hp? I want to be able to smoke a Z06 with this car. Anyway it would be crazy if software alone could add 100hp to it.

Is it just me or the front seats look overdone for a 4 drs? And looks like the spd meter is still hard to read.. But everything else looks great!!

C63 AMG Horsepower Figures
very aggressive.... I like.... I like very much.........
This car will definately BREAK RECORDS
By the way, I don't think this car will only have 457 hp, I think it will have the full 507 hp just like all the other 63 engines. Mercedes has a way of manipulating advertised hp figures for marketing reasons. They did this with E55 vs SL/CL 55. In reality, this car will dyno exactly the same as E63/CLS63 etc, but will weight much less...

Yeah, but if the engine is de-tuned by software so that it has 50-70 less hp then it should at 451 or 457hp then the software upgrade would be getting back what was taken away and adding 50-30hp on top of that. Even the 63 engines in the CL and S that put out 518 are not putting out there full potential in programing. Renntech can add 33hp and 30tq on them putting them up to 551hp and 495tq. Now imagine those numbers on the C63. That would be a mid eleven second car easy and be faster then the 65's.

Wow.........does anyone see a little 190E EVO in this?
This car looks great!
I cannot wait for this new beast to carve up M3's for breakfast.
The new M3 has for once, nothing on this new AMG.

Don't like the wheels
Don't like the eyelids on the lights
If it comes close to 70k, don't like the price, would need more car
Otherwise I think they're on to something
At his point C63>M3 based on editorials
Now wheres that Lexus

Jeez......
I know it's going to be badass, and I also know it's an AMG........but at the end of the day, I'm not sure I can write a check for $70k knowing I'm buying a C-Class.....albeit it a very POWERFUL one, but nevertheless..........
I love the car, but it's not for me.

Except I'm not even worried about the Lexus. They've been notorious for making lame ducks. Lexus simply lacks the know-how for building what are, essentially.......luxury muscle cars.
If it's going to be anything like the SC430......I'm not losing any sleep.

Then again, they didn't style, design, nor are marketing the IS-F like the SC430.
A lot of folks are missing a big picture here. The C63 is out but it's not getting cover paged by the mags. The M3 Concept got more press than the C63! The IS-F is still "rumored" by a few dealerships. This is going to be a helluva exciting model year...

Why is that? How is it something so vile as the new M3 (IMHO) gets so much press, when the better looking, and probably better performing C63 gets less? Makes no sense.
I assume it has to do with the M3 being historically, the better car. But given what we know now, I think this will be the first time the C Class might actually out-class and out-gun the BMW......
The AMG has the BMW on looks, with light mods the AMG can easily out-gun, out-drag, and out-perform the BMW, the AMG has the better interior, etc, etc.
The only saving grace the M3 has is it's legendary handling......and I'm betting there's even a solution to beat that problem.......

Actually.......I've been wondering about that.

The M3 is one of those legendary benchmarks by which comparable cars are judged. So each new M3 is viewed as a harbinger of the future for BMW and all cars that compete with it.
Like it or not, the C63 (like the RS4) are always in "follow" mode rather than "lead" mode when it comes to all-out performance sedans. It would take a major, long-term flop by BMW to change this.

I wonder what the shift times are like for the 7G-Tronic modified by AMG for quicker shift times. DSG is 8ms and SMG is 80ms. Tried finding some published times for 7G but nothing.

If MB could make a transmission that responded QUICKLY to EVERY requested shift, going immediately to the gear selected (limited only by redline), then it might be competitive with DSG.
The one thing a full auto gearbox cannot do is downshift in anticipation of a hard turn (usually only occurs on a race track) or downshift during a sweeper where speed is being scrubbed off. On the street you wouldn't even want it to do that.

Some interesting questions that will be debated:
1. Which one will be the best to drive every day?
(My guess is the Mercedes C63 AMG)
2. Which one will be the most exclusive?
(Probably the Lexus because few would buy it)
3. Which one will be the best on the track?
(I suspect the M3 to be slightly better than the C63, but don't know since I've driven neither)
4. Reliability?
5. Availability?
6. Which one will have the best interior?
(BMW M3 will likely win this one)
We've got a lot of choices for 2008. It's going to be a great year. Here are some photos for those making your considerations.

BMW has build on a foundation that started in the 1960s, and they have stayed true to their mission (at least they've kept SOME portion of their product line consistently pro-driver. They deserve the status that they hold.
