VRP CF AirBox arrived

Finally received my Cf box!!

Thanks Vic and Mike. Great guys to deal with.
Adding this to my VRP 530 kit and an ECU tweak we should be at 550hp before Christmas

Now if I could only get my car. 90 days and counting....

This is going to be fun!!!!

Looks great!

I'm not going to ask the obvious question - because I can't afford it.

I might be asking an obvious question, how do you gain HP from a CF cover? I like to buy one for sure.

Hey George,

Gains are: 18-21hp, 14-18lb/ft. The plenum volume has been substantially increased and results in not only hp and Torque increase but an better throttle response as well.

Looking forward to your review of the product. Also some before and after dyno runs would be great if you had a dyno near you.

Thanks Barry,

I think I will get one for my car is here. Can I install this myself? I never worked on an engine before, but I like to. The price is good, I had a CF bike that looked half good as this engine cover for $7000, so this is a bargain.

Dyno's are all set. Going to do step by step from stock, then Cf Box, VRP 530 Kit and then ECU.

Comes with complete install directions. VERY easy!!

I was going to do it on delivery in the dealer parking lot but think I will wait for the 1000klm mark and run a baseline dyno before anything gets done. Quick run up to Ottawa to see 1St AMG (Nick) should get that done in first 24 hours (LOL)

I really like the way it looks, so it is a go for me. I will wait for the 2000 KM to install. Forgive my ignorance again, can I still do a Renntech upgrade if I get it?

Thank you,

George

First rule of Modding an AMG is to get to know your preferred dealers Shop Foreman very well.

I know mine very well and have no qualms about doing my planned mods with his blessings

Renntech ECU? No problem. The CF box should have no affect on the ECU tunes performance

So hopefully, with the CF box and the RennTech ECU and making friends with the guy who works at the shop I will have a better monster in Sept or Oct.

Barry, I am here waiting, test mule and all! Not very far of a drive, 3 1/2 hours will get you to my door. I am almost at the 1000km mark, 500 more to go and these stock tires are going to get it! Seriously though, plan a day or two trip here, shoot for Sept 29 as we have the track for a full day, Calabogie Motorsports Park, lots of exotics such as Ferrari 430, 550 Maranellos, Lamborghini gallardo, lotus' , yours truly, and even a carrera GT, you would love this event, if interested, let me know i can book a spot for you, the stock tires and rims will serve a purpose for me that day. BTW, now we know where all the carbon fibre went in the world, if anyone is wondering why carbon fibre is not being offered right now on the C63, look no further, Barry stole it all

That isn't true. Increasing airflow to the engine has to change something or else you wouldn't feel a difference. If the ECU sits there and does nothing, you are leaning out the air/ fuel mixture, which would make it feel faster, get better mpg, but would make it more prone to detonation. ECU's can compensate to a certain degree however, so it is likely it will add some fuel to maintain the target air/ fuel ratios and the end result would be more power with no compromise in safety. I doubt any off the shelf tuner would make any map that aggressive anyways. Of course, if you can get it tuned for the intake and any additional mods, it'd be safer and might even make more power.
