Rear Tires - Wear & Tear

Rear Tires - Wear & Tear
I'm at almost 4k miles and have never intentionally done a burn out. I would clasify myself as a spirited driver as I'm sure most of you can identify.
I'm curious how other owners rear tires are holding up?
I'm already between 1/2 - 3/4 of the way through the rears and I bought the car at the end of April... Oooccchhh this could get expensive.
What tire prices have most of you found for replacements?
Same size, brand, etc..?
Anyone consider nitto's or others?
My 03 Cobra eats a set of Nitto's every 4k miles but 315/35/17 are only costing my about 190 each and I'd expect it after dynoing 560 to the wheels... (lots of fun when its time to retire the old ones

The C63 is definitely under-tired in the rear. You could probably put 265's on the back and be fine for your next set. I am really surprised they chose 9" width for the rear wheels.

Hmm I would be quite interested in some feedback from other owners out there who have already put on some mileage and have already/are thinking of new tyres..
Also agree about the thin rear tyre in relation to the cars performance + a fat rear tyre looks cool too ;-) Has anyone put on some 275's already..? If so how are they holding up?

2013 C63 Black Series
this is very discouraging
I have been/am on the fence about buying another RS4, M3 or C63 AMG. I love the RS4, but wanting an auto transmission option for traffic. After driving the M3, I pretty much settled on the C63 AMG, but its posts like these that give me pause. I am sure someone will chime in about how at this price point, it shouldnt phase us. I disagree. To spend $70k on a car, then worry about $2000 per year in tires and $5000 per year in gas causes me to think twice. So the rumors are confirmed... if this is a daily driver, you will be replacing at least the rears 2-3 times per year. Assuming you want to match up with all new rubber, maybe the fronts too. Wow.
I have a 1997 Carrera S widebody with massive tires in the rear, where about 80% of the weight is... they dont even wear this fast.

I'm at 2300 miles and my tires look like new.
How many miles were on your car when you bought it? Maybe someone else had "worn them in"?
I just did a quick look/feel of my rears vs. fronts and the rears might have a TINY bit more wear than the fronts, but not a whole lot.
Looking at the wear right now, I'd expect to get at least 15,000 miles out of these tires but that is of course "sheer speculation." But honestly, they look and feel new. Lots of tread.
All that said, I'm not overly impressed with the stock Pirellis. The car's suspension can easily use a better tire. The Pirellis squeal a lot earlier in the turns than the Advan Neovas on my Evo. They squeal a little too soon for a car of this caliber IMO. I'm not sure what to replace them with that will offer the least noise and most grip, when the time comes.....

Mostly freeway, unfortunately. I have spun them off the line a few times, some brisk cornering.... no track.
I think the tread compound isn't that soft, so it shouldn't wear out that fast unless you're taking off quickly all the time. Usually I am not first in line at a stoplight so I can only go so fast -- one of the frustrating things about owning a C63! I hardly ever get to wind it out! If I take off quickly I have to immediately lift or I'm gonna run over the "POS" in front of me! What is the saying... 'it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow?' argh.... but these are good problems to have!

My intent was to question not to deter others from this car because I love it... I took delivery with 6 miles so I know no one else broke them in for me.. After the break in I've demonstrated to a few of my friends what the car can do so I'm sure that helped wear out the rears but I mostly drive highway.
I've also had nitrofill since new if anyone was wondering.
Any other owners with a few thousand miles that can comment...?

UPDATE!!!!
Developed a slow leak in the rear pass tire and had to get them replaced today. Dealer price is $360 each for PZeros. Talked to some of the other AMG owners and Falken's FK452 were suggested as a good perofrmance alternative. Little harder compound and hopefully better treadlife. Was able to get them for about $240 (mounted, blanaced, and nitro fil) at the dealership... I did increase the size to 265's for an extra 10mm of tire on each side. The OD only changed by about .3 so the speedo should stay close. Maybe .5 MPH at 65.
I'll let everyone know how it goes.
Hans, keep me posted how your tires last.

2009 C63 AMG Black on Black PP Package CF fully loaded
I'm undecided either to get the MB tire package or Not???
The tire package will tag on another $1200 on my close to 78K (w/taxes) already... apparently the AMG series goes for about 300 $ more then a standard MB car....
Sooo,,,, any thoughts out there,,, the coverage is 5yrs including rims, check it out on the web site http://mercedesbenzowners.com/?p=33

Rim/Tire Coverage
You should absolutely get the coverage. If you damage one rim it will have paid for itself. As far as tires if the wear line is in the red I doubt they will cover replacements. I'll ask my service guy for details when I go pick up the car tonight. Would like to hear from the members about how MB outlines coverage...
Ordered a grill replacement to fix the weather trim that was sticking out. No questions asked...
