Dyno Results?

Hello, first time poster.

I pick up my '09 C63 with Performance Package, Int/Nav/Alcantra, MM pack, etc this Wednesday. I plan on throwing it on the DynoJet to get baseline dyno numbers on Thursday, and then shooting to go to the track for some stock quarter mile ETs/traps on Friday.
Has anyone dyno'd their C63 to date, and if so what kind of numbers did you see (what type of dyno and correction factor was used if any)?

Thanks!
Andy

How is the ride with the performance package? and does the steering wheel look/ feel different from the stock C63? Thanks

Driven a C63 on the dyno, don't have quarter mile results, but expect it to be in the 12 second range. The car is (needless to say) very very fast.

On the dyno, if you leave the transmission in "S" mode, you should achieve a 0-60 mph run in about 3.0 to 3.1 seconds. A 0-100 mph run in "M" mode can be achieved in about 6.0 to 6.2 seconds (shift early in first gear, it's very short).

This dyno experience was provided by the traveling "AMG Ride/Drive Event" also dubbed as the "Traveling AMG Circus" which I strongly recommend you attend if you get the chance.

What I like!
Vadim had my car dynoed at 374 WHP. All stock including all the filters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwCwMRDjWGI

It was pretty warm and the fan in front of the car wasn't blowing very hard... (Yes of course I'm going to make excuses for my baby! )

Vadim said the HP was right on for a stock car though, that they are dynoing between 370-380 whp

Thanks for the replies guys.

Hans,
Is that on par with what other 6.2s are putting down in E/S variants? I was hoping for at least 400rw stock. Finally, is there a special procedure for dynoing? TIA

As for dynoing before the car is "broken in", the rings are seated when we take delivery so the gains are going to be minimal (the rest of the driveline may be a different story) IMO. Either way I really don't have an option as I'm bringing quite a few parts (full exhaust, tune, CAIs, ported stock heads/intake, cams) to market for this car in the very near future so time is of the essence.

Thank you sir, I appreciate your input! Gotta love Eddy current dynos for tuning (what I use as well).

Thanks!

The weird thing is that a 6.1 Hemi in a LX platform (Charger, Magnum, 300C) will make 370-380rw SAE on a DJ stock all day long.

So I guess you are planning to replace your LSD fairly soon after you get the car? No break in?

LSD will be fine as long as I stick to the stock rubber (or non DRs). I've had significantly more powerful cars with weaker drivelines and had no issues to date. Additionally, I don't plan on hammering it away from every stoplight (that's what the Jeep is for), so the diff won't be as much of an issue anyway.
Regardless if something does break, I have warranty.

Many SL65 owners that ignored the break in on their LSD's had issues. Yes drag radials or full slicks put a huge stress on the drive train but they ask you to change out the diff fluid on the LSD AMG's for a reason after break in.

Why would you not want to take a bit of care so your next post isn't a complaint about how you had to take your car in for this clunking noise before you hit 1000 miles?

Have fun.... Enjoy!

On a dyno there is no resistance so the car goes very fast and hits the limiter much more quickly than on the street my car hit 173 in 13 seconds.

Off the dyno a run to 173 would take 15-17 seconds longer.
0-60 in 3 seconds seems correct

AMG engines are broken in on a dyno before they ever get near a car. The transmission, on the other hand, requires break-in. Like other's here have suggested, I'd follow what MB recommends and not trash my investment.

Actually, only 65 (V-12) and SLR engines are broken in on a factory dyno. Others are driven electrically to check for leaks only. 63 engines are virgin when you get them.

Hmmm - when I visited a couple of years ago, I could have sworn they said all the AMG engines were broken in on a dyno.

Nope whoover is correct. V12's and SLR yes, other only as part of the overall QC.

Thanks for the advice. Though like I said, I'm not looking to thrash the hell out of it continually, just throw it on the dyno and make a handful of passes with it. Exhaust fabrication begins on Friday hence the car will be down for a month or so; meaning I have to acquire some baseline data while I can.
What's the diff fluid interval for a C63? 10--15k?

Here's a good example of a C63 before and after tuning on our eddy current style Chassis Dyno
The red line (stock) shows the amazing amount of torque limiting the C63 has in stock form, while the blue line (ECU tuned shows just how much power and torque these engines can make with the factory ECU properly tuned. Hope this isnt a breach of Terms and Conditions!

Those torque figures are actual rear wheel torque figures, i.e. how much torque the rear wheel is imparting on the roller in a raw format which takes into account tyre size and gear ratio. The Dynojet will try and correct to what it believes is engine torque using a derived calculation. We can do the same thing, in which case Derived torque on that run would be closer to 440ft/lb

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum and have been trying to find out how
to get my C63 into "Dyno Mode" - There is no reset button on the
cluster only the one of the steering wheel. I have tried Ignition 1 while
pressing the reset 3 times as well as holding it down - neither works.

How did you guys get this car into dyno mode.

Thanks
