What is the normal engine temp?

My C63 reads above 80 (probably around 90 celcius). Is that normal? I just got it and it runs well and no error codes.

Thanks a million. The AMG display gave the temp as 195-197 fahrenheit. My guage is reading exactly as yours is. I'm guessing that is normal. I was just doing a morning commute and not thrashing the car as well.

These engines run real hot, if i had a frozen dinner to defrost, i would simply place it under the car and.....presto ready in five minutes!

If I remember right, every MB that I have owned has ran just over 80 degree's celcius and you have to remember thats a **** load of motor cramned in a small space (little airflow)

Thanks for the added replies guys. It makes sense that a 6.2 liter howitzer runs hotter than a Camry.

Also, those pictures looked were taken while stopped. These cars often run cooler at high speed (90+mph).

I agree. My car runs at around the same temperature at most times too, and during hot days it runs a bit hotter too. Generally all cars run hotter when driving through the city traffic. However the engine on this car runs much much cooler and acts much more responsive when it is on a high way at high speeds.

Is the readout for the W204 in Fahrenheit now? I meant 100 Celsius, sorry for the confusion.

212F would be 100C, is it that hot at speed also?

You can change between C and F - I set mine to F (US). I wasn't driving at highway speeds, but I did keep checking to see what the normal operating temp. was. I always wait for my oil to heat up before driving any of my cars hard.

Actual guage for US market is Celcius 80-120. The little menus on the dash that the buttons on the left part of the steering wheel let you run through nav/audio/telephone and then you come to the AMG one. That electronically displays the oil then engine temps in Fahrenheit.

That's the one I'm talking about. I think you can set it to Farenheit or Celsius. Either way, that's what I'm using for my temps.

That explains it, we were talking about coolant temp before.

Ahhh, sorry for the confusion. I saw the images, but didn't pay attention to the fact that you were looking at the guage and not the digital readout. Coolant temp is insignificant compared to oil temp IMO, so I never look at mine that much.

Well it shows that your outside temp is 31 celcius (approx 86 degrees) and that you are just sitting there in idle and to me it all looks normal considering the condition that your in. Under normal driving ops and not just sitting there while heat builds up in the engine bay and you have air circulation the temp should run just over 80 degree's cel.
