Which LSD oil do we use?
If the information was already posted, I couldn't find it in the search function...
"The Titan EG 5010 D is sold as Titan Sintopoid FE SAE 75W-85. It was formulated for European applications, and so it was never tested in a full GL-5 program. The formulation offers the frictional properties required by MB 235.7 - additional frictional modifiers are not necessary. "

I sent a follow-up question about the PP equipped C63 to find out if it uses a different fluid as I would expect a 75W-140 oil in an LSD. Check out this post:
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2983306
What this post says is consistent with the information posted here:
http://www.motor.com/product_updates.asp
The information on that site indicates that the LSD cars (other than the C63) use the 75W-140 oil whereas the non-LSD cars use the 85W-90 oil (a seeming inconsistency with the information from Fuchs but there may not be much difference between the 75W-85 and the 85W-90 - more research is needed). I would expect all AMG cars to generally use the same diff oil across product lines with a difference between LSD and non-LSD cars, however.
This site "http://www.minotek.com/lubeinfo/key.pdf" states:
"Mercedes-Benz: 6-Speed Manual transmission use P/N 001 989 2603 or approved products listed on MB Sheet 235.10. All others manual transmissions use as noted P/N 000 989 2603 or approved products on MB Sheet 236.2. Rear Differential 2008 S63 AMG and 2008 S65 AMG use Fuchs Titan EG 5010 D."
If the 75W-140 oil is the correct one for the LSD cars, I will likely use Motul instead of Castrol. See this link:

My dealer said that the diff change is not covered under warranty, and it will cost me over $100, so I'm playing the waiting game...
Edit: I will get an answer and make sure that it is the same p/n and will repost here.

See this link as well for diff oils used by MB:

The numbers are close except for the pour point which is fairly lower for the Castrol. Any chemical engineers or chemists out there mind explaining these numbers?
As for the amount of oil, I would think it takes a liter at a minimum. The dealer also said that you had to put in the new fluid, drive the car (doing circle eights), and then top if off again. I've never heard of such a thing and don't put a lot of faith in his comments as he wanted to sell me ATF fluid. When it comes time to do my change, I will get the service manual for the procedure and find out what the correct procedure and amount is.
"In response to your inquiry, Motul Competition Gear is not approved by
Mercedes-Benz.
The MB recommended differential fluids are:
Castrol SAF XJ 75W-140
MB 235.61 AMG Hypoid Gear Oil 0019895203 75W-140
The fill capacity is 1.2 litres."
I refuse to get my work done at the dealer as they always screw something up and are overpriced but some folks have no decent options. I am lucky to have a good shop nearby that has the most meticulous mechanic I've ever met. Just wait until you do your oil change at the dealer and pay another $300 for that (filter is $22 and a quart of oil at PepBoys is $6.70).
Had mine done today
what it says on invoice
I called the dealer in advance to inquire abt the drain plug. They had to order it
Part # / Description / Price
3 001-989-52-03-10 Transmission 72
1 001-990-23-17 Piston 22.50 (drain plug?)
1 002-989-23-71 Adhesive no charge (no idea what this is)
labor $ $115.00
with tax and Hazz mat,
total was $230.32
Castrol SAF-XJ 75W-140 is the only one that does not void your warrantee.
It should be serviced for free at your first visit. I went through this with my dealer because I did he change myself before I found they should have done it. In the end the comp'ed me an A service.
There are only 2 sources for this gear lub.
1. Mercedes dealership
2. BMW dealership.
I got it at the BMW dealership because it cost 1/3 that of the MB dealer. You just need to bring your own container. Now I have enough to change it again.
For those doing it themselves, it is a 17mm hex and takes about 150ft lbs to break free. I did not use new plugs, and I have had no drips or weaping. I did put a little silicon sealer on the threads.
document from MB or AMG on this LSD oil.
I showed the dealer the post from rantarC63,
of course not a problem they tell me.
Well picked up the car today and they charged me $4.80 for gear lube and
$63.48 for labor. We all know they put the right stuff in it,cant argue with
stupid.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Bernie Sunier.
Thanks,
Mike
