This thread is complete BS... you can change from M to C to S and any combination while driving with NO ill effects. To qualify my statement... I am a Master tech who has had MANY of these transmissions apart.

I thought this was crap too, and you just verified that. Thanks!
I figure if I can switch the manettino from Sport to Race to CST Off to .... while in flight in my Italians, the Germans would have limited it electronically if the thought it was bad!

Just went out and tried switching modes while not in park... my transmission fell out from underneath the car, thanks everyone. Nah, just kidding.
I also read in my manual that you shouldn't change will not in park.
Um, with the Ferrari's and Porsche: don't does also control other components besides transmission. Also, maybe those were designed to allow for change while not in park. The mercedes system could just be designed differently. I just drive the damn thing in sport all the time anyway cause the throttle has such shiity response when in C, especially since it's a 320. Even in S when the computer adapts it sucks. I hate this computer adaptation crap ("it learns how you drive. Oh ya, all it needs to learn is how to give me a bj while driving), wish I could just strip the stupid thing out and let me drive the way I want (I guess that's the nice thing about the M mode you guys have. I really see an advantage with stick shift here).

Yeah I guess you guys are right, those dam Germans must be bunch of idiots for giving mis-information out to there MB's field techs and editing managers whom wrote the owners manual-up... And BTW I don't baby my car as a few might think, but then WF does anyone care about what they do with there own cars... All I know is that this car puts a nice smile my face when I rip around or cruise for that matter... : > ))))))))

Classic CYA from MB. I've changed the mode countless times on my car while it's in motion and haven't experienced an issue. To be safe and just for the peace of mind, MB is encouraging their owners to do this while the car is in P.

Yep. Don't worry, be happy and enjoy you car. MB just wants to play safe. They don't want their a$$es got sued by some stupid Jacka$$ that took their eyes off the road while searching the buttons and crash. And say "hey, you did not warn me that!!!"
