Folding mirror options

To all of us that got out 09s without power folding mirrors, I have researched our options and listed them below. I've been discussing this with Steve Krabbenborg at length and all the prices lised below are from him. In either case the car needs to have the Gateway and IC coded for the power fold option via the Stardiagnose computer.

Convert existing mirror to power folding 600 - 640 Euros shipped

Buy complete new style mirrors that are power folding 1150 Euros shipped.

Steve indicated that the install is not simple, but doable for a competent DIY person or via a local dealer or body shop. I think Steve does periodic trips to the States and does installs. If there are enough of us interested I will see if we can negotiate a GB and maybe get a multi stop install trip with Steve. If you would be interested in doing this, reply to this thread and/or PM me with your preferred mirror conversion choice and location. (I'm personally leaning toward comverting my existing mirrors as I can't justify the additional 500 euros to get the new style mirrors.) Going with the new style mirror does simplify the install as you get fully assembled mirrors and do not need to disassemble your existing mirrors.

So the existing mirrors have a motor that will fold them? I assumed the 08 mirrors would be mechanically different inside from the 09s, and would have to be replaced regardless.

Steve will be doing the install/conversion for me in Dec. I will let you know how complicated it is.

He did the install on my C55 a few years ago - it involved installing the motorized units, using the existing mirror housings, replacing the mirror adjustment unit in the dash, and coding the option using the Stardiagnose. I expect the conversion will be similar for the C63 with the exception of the control unit being on the left door.

What really ticks me off is how the Canadians still get this option in 09...lol

If staying with your current design mirrors, you get a new frame that has the power fold motor and resuse the rest of your existing mirror parts.

Ya, my two cents is don't drive yourself nuts over folding mirrors. I have them on my S550, it's a neat feature, but not necessary. Mainly it lets me know I didn't forget to lock my doors as they fold in only when you lock the doors. I could live without them. As a side note, when I was buying my s550 over 2yrs ago i turned down a great deal on an early production '07 S550 because it didn't have the "I gotta have it no matter what feature" infra-red video that pops up where the speedometer is. Needless to say I waited an extra two months for the car with the feature, drove to another state to get it and paid an extra $1750 for the option - which in the 26 months I've had it - I HAVE NEVER USED IT ONCE! The folding mirror novelty will be gone quickly, trust me.

I guess it all depends on where you live and park. I often park in very tight lots all around L.A. at the various workplaces I visit. I've had side mirrors pushed in, out, bashed, destroyed on previous Benzes (S500's, C280, ML430). Ever since I've had electrically folding mirrors on my newer models ala C55, Porsche, etc. I've never had a problem. I especially like that auto-closing feature.

The folding mirror "novelty" as you call it is commonplace in Europe, and likely is here to stay.

I meant the novelty of having a folding mirror, I did not mean the feature itself is a novelty. I agree in tight spots they can be useful and will help u avoid mirror scratch and dents. I'm that guy who parks away from other cars, even if it means extra walking, to avoid door dings and mirror scrapes.

The folding may be a novelty. But the reverse tilt is the option that i would use daily. It is extremely helpful with parallel parking. I still can't believe it was not standard on this car.

Yes, I have. Steve from MBenzNL performed the job. Works fine. Basically the mirror assembly folds in when you lock it, and unfolds when you unlock it.

Cool. Does the passenger-side mirror also tilt down when the car is in reverse?

Do the 2010 C63's have this feature standard, or is it an option we can add?

Looks like he'll be in CA next month (April). I'm in for an East Coast group buy if the side mirror tilts down as well when the car is in reverse.

MBUSA is ridiculous; what else are they screwing us over on?

(I STILL want that safety triangle to stick in my trunk! )

Whoa, wth........

This stuff is NOT standard or optional on the C63????

I have rear A/C, and mirror tilt on reverse on my W203.....

I think it's funny that they still don't offer keyless go.......even my gf's Lexus has that.

A big FU to MBUSA, those tards.

MBUSA def F'ed all of us REAL bad. Not just with the mirrors too

But do you guys really think it’s worth 600 euro for folding mirrors?

C'mon totally not worth it, put that money into some nice body work or engine work.

Not to mention MBUSA stiffing MANY people including myself on the HALF A$$ version of the Performance Package, their explanation: "O... I’m sorry I guess we did forget to install suspension, brakes, and a steering wheel... OUR BAD" F’in retards!

BTW I refused the car and the rush ordered me a new one with the FULL package
