Blacked out my grille bars today...
Well, I got bored and blacked out the horizontal bars in my main grille today. I didn't want to have to modify more than necessary, so I wanted to remove only the chrome front pieces. As it turns out they come off pretty easily: Just slide them towards the outside and push out the outer chrome trim ring a little to give them clearance to pull towards you and release.
I sanded the pieces with 120 grit paper on a rubber block and then sprayed them with a couple coats of Dupli-Color gloss black and a couple coats of Dupli-Color clear. They match the glossy plastic backing bars almost perfectly.
Anyway, here's a poopy cameraphone shot of the results and I'll post some better pics tomorrow after I get a chance to shoot it with my real camera:

OK, so here's some shots of the grille I took with the real camera. They're pretty much indistinguishable from the OE plastic:
And with $5.50 worth of red and yellow eyebrow bulbs from Kragen (no $200 LEDs for me, thank you very much)...

So all you painted were the 4 chrome(plastic) horizontal pieces, is that right?
Did you think about painting the chrome surrounding the grill, or was it not part of your plan or did it seem too difficult for your proven skills?

I thought about doing the outer ring and mocked it up with black electrical tape (Soooo ghetto, just ask MNL ICE, he saw it...) but it didn't look right. On a darker or lighter color I think it could look great, but not so much on the Palladium. Besides, I'm a big fan of small, subtle mods and having the outer hoop blacked out looked a little too, uh... "aftermarket" for me.

looks clean as hell, im thinking of doing something similar to that or try to get ahold of the K1 motorsport dry carbon fiber grilles but until that 899$ doesnt go down im just gonna chill

PM me. It only took a couple of hours including drying time and the two cans of paint cost about $12 w/ tax at Kragen on Lincoln and Pico.Josh

off topic but why the *** did u come back after the 2 burnouts at the meet lol...

I know this is an old thread, but I thought the OP's instructions on how to remove the chrome grill bars was very helpful. I don't have pix yet but removal was very easy, which made vinyl wrapping much easier. Just be careful with the tabs because their are a little fragile.
