Jack for C63

I was shopping the other day for a new jack for my C63 and stumble across a very nice Motocraft aluminum jack that is rated 1.5 ton. I know, that C63 curb weight is about 1.7 ton and have decided not to get it. What are you guys using to lift your C63?

TIA

How can you lift a whole car by a single jack? Tell us your secret
I am using aluminum jack 1.5t from COSTCO
It needs to be positioned precisely not to damage plastic bottom cover.

This is exactly my point. How those jacks are rated? Are they expecting to user to calculate weight of the car on each corner?

My assumption was that jacks are rated the according to the weight that they can handle when you lift the car on one side. So, that means 1.5 rated jack is not enough for a 1.7 ton car.

Car is 1.7 tonnes roughly divided by 4 = weight at each corner

Jack rated for max lifted weight 1.5 tons which is more than enough.

Don't think to hard

That jack is fine, I am using a Michelin Racing series jack that is rated at 1.5 tonnes, as stated before, there are four corners on the car, so no problem.

old post i know - but question

how are you jacking the car up - Im assuming the jack you guys are getting does not fit into the jack point on our cars. Are you just using the jack in that particular area in fron of the rea wheel?

The end of my jack looks like a bowl. I put that on the side of the jack point, so that it rests in the middle of the bowl. Jack away from there. If you have a better and longer jack than mine, you could probably get it far enough under there to use the frame.

I know some where there are older posts (a good two years ago) about jack pads for the car.

If the jack that comes with the car is approved for lifting these cars, a 3rd party one will more than do the job.

Exactly. VW guys have the same jack. It's known as "the widow maker". One piece of flimsy plastic away from dropping the whole car on you.

I messed around with the OEM jack some yesterday - its flimsy. I wouldnt trust it at all unless I was stranded. The thing started bending as I cranked it - and I did ensure it was flat to the surface.

I guess MB figures most customers wont ever even attempt to swap wheels or fix a flat with roadside available.

They should however equip AMG cars with better jacks.

Widow maker... heh... I used the jack to jack up all 4 corners at some point to do flush my brake fluid and change it... maybe I should invest in some jack stands...

I say if the stock jack that comes with the C63 could lift up this car then a normal jack would too.

I have a 1.5 ton one and never had issues. I also put a rag on it not to do any damages because the fitting is though to do. Did it about 10 times, no problems. Always put axle stands for safety!

I use that jack pad that I ordered online and it works amazing, no guessing where to place the jack and it is very safe and feels 100% secure, I strongly reccomend it if you like to swap wheels/tires yourself.

I use that jack pad as well. My car is lowered and I can no longer get a jack under the front so I jack it up from the side and lower it onto a 3" block of wood under the front tire. Then I can get my jack under the front of the car and lift the whole front up at once and place 4 ton jack stands under the jack points. I have a 3.5 ton jack with a fitted rubber pad on the lift cup. I can easily get my 6200 lb truck lifted with it. 1.5 ton jacks just look flimsy and unsafe to me. I use 5 ton jack stands to support my truck and R class.

So what your saying is.. if you get a flat out on the road.. you are screwed since you cannot get the stock one under there to put on the donut (unless you carry all that stuff with you regularly...)

The jack that comes with the car will still work on mine in an emergency.

What I want to know is OTHER THAN the four jack points where else is it safe to jack the car from?

If someone could post a photo of the bottom of one of our cars with safe places to place a jack, I would really appreciate it.

I have a front and rear jack point I use on the C63 and generally on most other cars.

In the front there is generally a heavy cross member that runs under or slightly in front of the engine. If you look under the C63 there is a front splash panel and one under the engine. In between the two you will find a circle formed into the two panels and in it a plastic bump. This is the location for the front jack point and the bump is there for protection of the frame and is replaceable. Your jack should have a rubber pad on the cup. Try to center this pad under the plastic bump.

In the rear I generally jack under the center rear edge of the differential housing. I have never had a problem lifting the rear of the vehicle this way even if it has a vented lower side on the differential like our R Class does. I do have a rubber pad on the lifting cup on my jack and it avoids any damage that would occur from any metal to metal contact.

Is it possible you could perhaps hightlight/circle the area where I should be jacking? Here is a picture I found of the underbody.
