Folding mirrors when in danger?

Guys,

I'd like to know if any of you guys experienced this

Today I was diving in a 2-lane street. I was in the right, but I had to make the next left. So, I singalled that I was changing lanes and started to move to the right. Suddenly, a taxi (that was behind me, in the right) accelerated. He passed by my side, but milimeters from the front of my car. Right after he passed, I noticed that my right mirror was folded.

My first impression was that the cab driver hit my mirror and it folded. But, if so, it wouldn't fold that way (It would fold with the mirror part facing the street, not the passenger window, as it did. It would probably break, since the cab was faster than me). Furthermore, there was no scratch on the mirror. It was perfect.

So... do you guys know if there's any system in our cars that would automatically fold the mirror in case of an iminent crash or a very close obstacle? Did this ever happen to you?

Of course it passes through the parktronic. That I know. What I didn't know is that the car would automatically fold the mirrors if parktronic detects something REALLY close to the side of the car.

And man, if it really automatically folded, it did in less than 1 second. Really fast. In one moment I was seeing the cab through it (assuming it would brake and let me pass), the other second the cab passed and the mirror was folded.

So, is there a button inside the C63 to fold both mirrors? I love this feature in my '07 BMW 335i and in our '08 GL450...was hoping the '09 C63 AMG has this feature as I use it everyday in my current cars. I should be getting my '09 C63 this Sunday. Not sure about it automatically folding just before the cabbie hit it though; I guess you got lucky there.

Yes, the middle button in the 3-button rearview mirror control array will allow for manual folding of the mirrors. You can also set it to fold in automatically whenever you lock the car.

Great! That makes it much easier to pull into my garage and into parking lot spaces...I always fold in the mirrors so ppl don't bang into them. Thanks.

Canadian version maybe? I don't think the US version has that feature.

You're kidding. Well, if you're correct, then that would be a huge oversight on the part of MBUSA. It's a pretty basic feature on most luxury or higher-end cars.

My C63 is Euro-spec. But I didn't know there was this difference!

I'm pretty sure the US version don't have that feature, I'm going to have to go home and check to make sure. :o

There were several threads about our mirrors.
I think it is something like...
MY 2008 Have folding mirrors and they drop when you shift into Reverse
MY 2009 Do not have that feature
(US specs)

No; we're talking about both mirrors folding with a button and/or when you lock your car. The passenger side mirror tilting down when in reverse is a different feature, which apparently will be in the 2010.

MY 2008 Automatic Folding mirrors AND drop in Reverse
I understand what you guys are talking about. The little button between those two buttons that you press to choose what side mirror you want to adjust. I think that this option was only available on MY 08. Since I don't have it on my MY09

That would stink for us '09 C63 guys. Do you have the Prem.2 package in your '09 C63...wondering if it comes with that package?

Would be cool if it prompted you to make one last review of who the beneficiaries of your will are as well.

Sorry, but I call BS on this... Small pillar that raises up?

The automatic closing windows I'd believe though (Pre-Safe).

It`s the same switch that cleans your seats just as you are about to have a "Rollover".
