Beeping noise under the hood??

Beeping noise under the hood??
After my car was parked in the garage several hours I heard a beeping sound when getting something out of the trunk. Tracked it to somewhere in the engine compartment?? A soft beep coming about 10 seconds apart. So soft that I could not figure out where under the hood the sound was coming from.
I started the car and then turned it off, and did not hear it any more. (Clearly not a bomb.) Any ideas on what it could have been?

Happened to me tonight. In fact, it is merrily beeping away in the garage as I type this...the weird thing is that the sound seemed to move, away from me around as I opened door and the hood to try to determine the source...must be coming from under the car somewhere.

Amazingly, I got to the dealer (a 68 mile trip one way) and the beeping was gone on shutoff. The GM and I were standing by the car and it was dead silent. I started it up, drove down the lot and shut the car off, still no beeping. So I drove home, shut if off, and then...IT STARTED BEEPING. It's now beeping in the garage hours later.

Could it be a smoke detector battery alarm. your garage door unit or something else in your garage or nearby, or maybe it's just a manic 63? Keep us posted.

Good guesses...I think I accounted for every possibility but I went into the garage an hour ago and I heard silence. Now I may never know...
