I haven't run yet (too hot, imho...waiting for the late fall or winter), but I've seen that other stock C63 AMG's have in fact run mid 12's @ 114+mph.

That should be your goal...but don't be surprised if your numbers are much worse. Last October I ran 3 times with an E.T. around 13.1-13.4 and consistent 110-111 traps, all stock except for charcoal filter removal and 19" AMG wheels which probably hurts a tiny bit. My excuses are: engine only had 2,000 mi (not fully broken in), brand new tires due to 19" upgrade (tires not broken in as well?), ran 40 psi all around (will lower the rears to 30-32 psi next time), and a first timer at the strip.

Now I have a host of goodies where I hope to drop a full second or more off my E.T. and hopefully gain 10+ mph. Have to wait until next Test 'N' Tune though which isn't until October

Nice times, but I'm sure you are aware that the ATCO track is one of the fastest tracks in the U.S.; not sure why though.

There's nothing really in the PP upgrade that will help with the 1/4 mi imo. I thought maybe the LSD would help, but according to all the experts on here it doesn't drop your 1/4 mi times. And actually, I think the stiffer springs might hurt your launch. I'm no expert, but I think you want the rear to squat for better weight transfer and hookup off the line. I know one thing for sure, after changing out to coilovers, I could tell right away I was hooking up better as I can feel the rear end squat more during hard launches. I have the rebound/compression on the default settings btw. But I'll just have to wait and see what kind of 60' times I can cut in Oct.

The oem stock C63 AMG suspension includes coil-overs. So, what did you change out on your suspension and why?

Yes atco is one of the fastest track but the fastest has to be M.I.R.
I also ran at englishtown wher it's not a fast track. My best stock was 12.452at 114. Street tires with a 1.90 -60foot

In the end I have over 50 passes and time slips with this car.
The best is my sig. And the slowest would be my 12.8 at 109Mph

Yes
I cannot imagine an LSD DOESNT help someone launch this car more effectively. Not to say it cant be done the same or near without an LSD, but consistency is the key - your 60ft times will be consistently lower with the LSD than without, given the same quality launch. More forgiving.

The brakes are lighter therefore reducing unsprung weight...that will also help in terms of acceleration - just a bit.

Can an LSD be purchased in the after market if you didn't opt for the Performance Package? If so would it be much less to purchase and install than MB's option?

The only Mercedes I know of that come stock with coilovers is the BS CLK63 and BS SL65. The stock C63 suspension is just a typical MacPherson strut arrangement I believe? Again, I'm not THAT knowledgeable on the subject so I'm careful not to pound things through as fact, however I do know you can't adjust the ride height, or dampening with the stock setup. And from what the Black Series guys have told me, the BS uses the KW V3 coilovers as well.

Unfortunately I think most people overlook the suspension on the C63. While I agree it is definitely one of the best handling Mercedes out there in stock form, the coilovers really do transform the ride. Looks, handling, and overall ride were all improved. I lowered the car about 1-1/4", and after alignment the shop dialed in -2 degree camber on all fours. The combination of all the above makes for an even better handling C63. But don't just take my word for it...there are several others who have upgraded to the coilovers and echo the same sentiments so hopefully they speak up

You know I thought the same thing. I was all ready to buy an aftermarket Quaife (sp?) LSD for that purpose, but I posed this question several times to all the drag racing gurus on the E55 board. I received the same answer from all the long time racers. What convinced me was after a couple members who actually upgraded to the Quaife LSD said their 60' times did not improve. It seems to be the general consensus that a LSD shines on the track in the twisties where you begin to lose traction but not in a straight line. Anyhow, that's just the information I've gathered...but if it truly does improve 60' times put me down for one cause I need all the help I can get with my 60'!

to me not having a LSD is like hell. the only way you will get good times is if you running drag radial (like i did when got best time) if you on street tires you can get a good 60foot BUT you might or will (like i did alot of times)spin one wheel when your car goes into 2nd gear. how ever when not running LSD you will lose alot of days at the track learning now to launch and whats going wrong and bla bla bla. the only way you can get a good time is at a track rental. and i was still spinning 2nd and got a 1.90 60-foot. and a 12.27 at 115. btw thats my best on street tires.

13.1 at 109mph I believe. 4000 alt or whatever its called. 60 time was 2.1 I think.

Its hard to launch these cars on street tires without spinning. I got some sticker tires, 40 treadwear, we'll see how that helps.

The LSD is good if your going on the twisties. For the 1/4 mile you dont need it unless its a street race with uneven pavement.

With a posi rear you will get much better launches. If you are melting your tires out of the hole then you need to either tub and run slicks at the track or just slicks.

For sure one of the fastest. It is the air they run in. My CLK55 ran 13.52@105.90 in nearly +2000 D/A. I lost my link to my conversion site,(was a mustang site), but I would roundabout guess if I ran in ATCO's insane -1500 D/A air, that same time would have been a 12.9@110 or so.

Atco's times are inflated. I plan to make a trip out there and run one day.
