I think the poster that brought up outrunning radio meant that the cops can just radio ahead to either another vehicle or even helicopter. Plus by then the news helicopters would be on you. When that happens be sure to wave out your window.

For the record radio waves travel at about 670,000,000 miles per hour (in vacuum). Maybe the Kleeman K300000 ECU tune will get us close to that speed. Or when the flux capacitor gets through beta testing.
no helicopter here an if there was it wont go 174mph (masters degree in aviation science here) radio would be a problem thats why i would get off at the nearest exit.

helicopters can also go only so far with a limited supply of fuel. another reason besides the shift change to keep the tank full.

I don't think the curvature of the earth plays any role on the effectiveness of police band radio when you're dealing with the small scale of a high speed car chase on US roadways though.

go read a book yourself or go take aerospace physics like i did.

I understand everything you stated in regards to satellite positioning relavant to the earth's curvature while outrunning a police vehicle as it's accessing radio frequencies to draw in speed and coordinates but reading asianML's posts just gives me a headache with his nonesense.

All this talk about the electromagnetic spectrum. Don't you guys realise that the Earth is a gravity well and therefore will have an affect by bending electromagnetic waves - hint: radio waves. Its soooooo simple. Your car is powerful enough to go straight. You get it; bending versus straight. The cops will never get you.

I can't believe VRAA, our resident science (space) cadet , didn't explain that one to you.

i would agree with you, but gravity is nowhere near as powerful as electromagnetic forces. it is the weakest of the four fundamental forces, which are in order of strength:

1) Strong Force
2) Electromagnetic Force
3) Weak Force
4) Gravitational Force

in that order, their ratios of strength are: 1 : 1/137 : 10^-6 : 6 x 10^-39

The electromagnetic force holds atoms and molecules together. The forces of electric attraction and repulsion of electric charges are so dominant over the other three fundamental forces that they can be considered to be negligible as determiners of atomic and molecular structure. Even magnetic effects are usually apparent only at high resolutions, and as small corrections.

it is a rather astronomical difference in strength as well.

besides, if it did hypothetically bend and car went straight, it is more likely that the waves would be reflected and hit the car at some point in the straight line. straight line waves COULD simply be reflected provided density of the tint is great enough

This thread desperately NEEDS to get closed for so many reasons......from the initial poster trying to find ways to outrun cops so he can keep up his speeding habits on the road......to the wonderful discussion about how to evade/outrun radar/radio signals.....to the speed of light and other electromagnetic radiation and the curvature of the earth......

It's so sad that I have to laugh......

I beg to differ. The sun, a much greater gravity well, bends light. That is just another form of electro magnetics (Sorry for the pun electromethod ). Reread Einstein.
Oh hell; why am I discussing this when VRAA could do so much better.

What's wrong with this post? Is humor now a character flaw? The C63 forum gets bashed all the time but they keep coming back for more.

ABTW If you really want to evade you need the "Stealth Lambo"

Yo, i always wanted to learn more about avionics and how they defeat the gravitation force. The planes fly because the have wings, just like birds. The helicopter fly because they have propellers or rotors just like bees. And how do the rockets fly? When I fart I dont lift off the ground

When I outrun cops, I only like to do it when it's cooler out. You see, it's important to keep the air conditioning off so you don't sap power and the windows closed to reduce drag. I don't like to sweat in a situation like that more than I have to.

Since my X5 isn't nearly as fast as a C63, I only do excessive speeds when I'm near a shallow stream. Those police cars can't cross streams easily, and if I time it correctly, I can cross a stream at a point that is far enough away from bridges for me to get away once I reach the other side. I'll be long gone while they are still trying to find a bridge to cross.
