VRP vs K&N
Any feedback on these two air filter upgrades? I know K&N is readily available and the cleaning kits are everywhere but what about the VRP air filters? Is there any evidence to show they are better or offer more performance? And are they "washable" and if so is there a kit you can order through VRP or could you just use the K&N cleaning kit? Thanks!!

^^ While I appreciate your help I still consider the amount of data on air filters are insuficient. I have had cars in which there are massive air filter shootouts of 10 plus filters, dynos, prices, AFR logs, install pictures, photos, etc.
There should be massive amount of information from Kleemann, Renntech, Carlssoon and all the big tuners but really there isn't much (just my opinion). Don't take it personal, you actually provided me with some good info but I am not 100% sold on what is out there.

Typically what I found during my experineces is that the manufacturers have a priority of making a good appeal when you open the hood thus the air filter efficiency gets compromise by the "looks" of the air filter boxes in the engine bay.
Secondly, the manufacturer aims for a quiet operation , again compromising the real performance of the car in exchange of a more"driveable/less anoying " car.
Because of the two main reasons I mentioned I always think that the manufacturer always leaves a lot of power to be had on the table. my .2c

You should also consider the BMC drop-in air filters as well; a few Forum members have these filters and like them. I had a BMC drop-in air filter in my previous BMW 335i and felt it was a great, high quality oiled air filter; similar to the K & N but with better fitment and possibly better material which allowed for better "breathing."
If anyone needs BMC's contact Oxygen on this forum. GREAT GUY to deal with
PS: Slightly better quality than K/N's IMHO

I have 4 sets of filters
Stock
K&N
VRP
BMC
K&N and VRP filters are the same as to the BMC filter they let more air flow. I use BMC if anyone wants to buy the other 2 sets I'm willing to sell the. The VRP's are brand new and the K&N's are used about 10k on them. They need cleaning.

I think we are placing too much emphasis on air filters. Of what is out there, there probably isn't too much difference in terms of HP/TQ.

Your right, I dont feel the HP gains in the sea of my pants because they are minimal gains, but what I did notice is there is a little more throttle response and when the motor shifts into the next gear I feel that the engine breaths easier, seems like it is ready for the next gear where as with the stock filters and charcoal I feel a laziness in its breathing....I hope I make sense?
