Suspension Help.

Had dealer install PP struts and coils. Picked up car today and the back looked really high. I thought the PP set up sits a few millimeters lower. I had measured between wheel center and outer edge of wheel well before I dropped the car off for the work. They measured around 14.25 inches in the back. Measured them again after installation and the distance was 15 inches. 3/4 of an inch more. Looks like Starsky and Hutch mobile. Went back to dealer. Wanted to make sure I had not made a mistake originally. So I looked for another C63 on the lot. Could not find one.I measured a c300 though. It too was right around 14.25. AMG suspension can not be higher then a regular C300. I know the coils will settle a little bit. But 3/4 of inch+ seems like too much of a variance. Did they put the wrong coils in the car?? Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Looked at work order and the part numbers for struts and coils match. But, I see no buffers replaced. Could that be the problem?

Perhaps you need to let the springs settle.

Ah, the perfect solution potential now exists. From a trusted source, you can run 245/40 front and 265/35 rear.....assuming you are on the 18 inch rims.

I had that same problem. I fought and fought because they said thats how it is and i proved them wrong and took the car back. Theres a piece that they most likely didnt replace which they have to in order for it to sit properly. That piece needs to be replace with one thats a couple of mm shorter. it goes underneath the rear springs

PP sits no lower than non PP. When I had mine, they always looked too high. Now I have the H&R springs. Much better. Lower, and better road feeling.

Is the ride less choppy and smoother with H&R springs now - basically for the road in the UK the PP suspension is too hard and I want something a little smoother, would H&R springs help do you think??

Did you replace the struts as well?

H&Rs in this case will make the ride more refined. A little bit less jarring but still very stiff. It wont become a smooth car by any means, but if you cant stand the stock springs like me, get them and you may prefer them. I did. Plus, visually they set the car off!!

Yes, struts and coils. It is sitting over 3/4 of an inch higher then original set up (non pp). Doubt settling will adjust that much.

Problem seems to be solved. Change to PP set up requires different chimes in the back. I believe chino1031 was referring to same part. Now 1/2 inch lower. With some settling should be fine. There are two camps on this set up. Those that think it is too hard and those that like it. I am in the like it group. Car feels tighter and ride is fine. It feels just right to me. But, this is just street driving. Will it be faster around the track? Will find out on Friday. Harder suspension usually requires stickier tires to get full benefit. Last time I tracked the carI was using Dunlop Direzzas. Very sticky. I have switched to Hankooks as I am going through tires like underwear. Getting expensive. Hankooks came in 2nd in a Car and driver test and even beat PS2. Hopefully they will work with the suspension set up. $175 for 265 30 19s. I have to change the two left ones after each event. The Pirrelis and Dunlops were too expensive for having to change once a month. Will post and let everyone know if I just wasted money or I actually got faster.

Yes I do somewhere. There is another thread here that has them. Let me know if a search does not pull them up. I will dig them up. They assumed it was just struts and coils. When I realized suspension was to high, parts department did another search and came up with two chime part numbers. They ordered the other and installed it. $77 for the part. I also talked to Mercedes and they also concluded either bad alignment or wrong chime. The changed the chime and did alignment again. The service manager said that the PP set up has different alignment specs. Not sure correct or not. Still 1/4 inch higher then non PP set up in the back. Hoping it will settle more.
