Hey guys i am brand new to the forum i been reading stuff on here for a few months .. I am an owner of a 09 C63 black on black in New Jersey. I recently put down a small downpayment on a 2010 GT500 to hold it the car is also black with white stripes... im not sure if im doing the right thing.. the car looks awesome and 540 hp sure is fun.. has or does anyone own a muscle car and prefer it over the c class? thanx in advance..

it's a great car! but it's a sports car and that fact it's a Ford, it's cheap inside. I say go for it though.

cheap inside? Have you even looked at the interior of the new 2010 mustang GT500? Its way better looking then the c-class interior. I say go for it. It looks great, its fast, ans has crazy mod potential. Also sounds amazing.

2009 C63
Ran some sloppy runs against one a few weeks back. Minus my traction issues, got 10k on my tires, the car had 1 car length on me through 75mph, might have made up some distance if we had room to go farther. Thing sounded mean, but I probably wouldn't spend 55k on a ford ever, except maybe a GT.

All my life I hated Ford for its cheap plastic interior but you have to go to a dealer and sit on a 2010 Mustang, it is a whole different league, the interior finally looks well done with much better quality materials.

As per the car, the 2010 offers now 540hp out of the box but if you tell that to a 2008 Shleby GT500 KR edition owner you might get a full sucker punch. The history behind this is that the regular 2008 Shelby GT500 was rated a 500hp and the KR edition was 540hp but cost $80000. Now you can get a Shelby GT500 for high 40's.

I personally love the looks of the Shelby GT500.

I wouldnt do it

Yes, the new Mustang has a much nicer interior and i ve sat in one but its still not as refined as a luxury german sedan.

Also Mustang feels very sloppy to drive, i am sure its gonna be a loads of fun but get a tune for ur 63 and you are making very similiar power.

It comes down to if you need the power or the refinement.

I have run numerous GT500's from a start, rolling start and from 100kph and have beaten them all, so not sure if it is as fast as everyone thinks, no doubt the 2010 looks better, but you are dealing with two different cars altogether.

yeah, it is cheap. cheap leather, cheap hollow plastic parts. most american cars are this way. Im sorry, I love the Shelby Mustangs and Vettes, other than that, nothing else interests me.

Check the latest road and track. They compared a bunch of cars for drifting. I can't believe they did not include the C63 as it is an easy drifer.
Anyway, it was a standard Mustang and they were not happy with the live rear axle. Mustangs have a bunch of power but you can do some reseach online on the magazines and you will find out that they cannot put that power to the ground. More power is futile without traction.
I would not spend 55K on a Mustang. You can get a Z06 for that price...

If I were to choose between the two I would def go with the C63. But I have always liked AMGs a lot..
Now you have had a c63 so why not change? It it always nice to have a new car and the GT500 seems like a very good and fun car. I dont think it is as good as the C63 but I think anyone who has one enjoys it a lot. I personally would like to own a US built muscle car at some point but their steering is never that good... If I were to choose one in this class (GT500, SRT charger, challenger etc..) I would go with the GT500 for sure!

Thats funny, have you looked inside of the C63? for a 70K car is very sad, as for the Mustag is a very nice car lowered a bit is a killer, its a total different car I have a 69 Camaro with a Lt1 engine and glass packs its fast and very loud, ride nice, head turner etc etc but the C63 is a different breed it just is, the Mustang is very nice a friend of mine drives a Cobra GT its a killer, money wise I think you are going to get hammered. Just my two cents Good Luck

I come from a Mustang background and the GT500 makes good power, but it is a solid rear axle. While the dash on the C63 is a weak point the rest of the car is much more refined and well engineered.

i can tell you one thing.... its going to be hard to beat fit and finish as well as interior quality... the merc leather is only about 1 gazillion times better than whatever ford uses.

C63 and the GT 500 two different cars. C63 is a refined lux rocket and a real sleeper. The GT 500 is just for performance no refinement, cop magnet, cheaply made. I would get the C63. Runs low to mid 12s@114+out of the box. Boltons into the 11s @118+. Why need more power?

Great article to read if your interested in the GT500. Bottom line if performance is a priority the Vette is where you want to be.

People kept mentioning the interior quality of C63 being low. I agree with some of the comment as there are lots of cheap plastic in C63. However when we talk about quality of interior its not just about what individual piece's materials are but how they are put togather.

Personal experience is in a german car (any german car in fact) the interior feels solid and well thought out. Japanese and American cars in comparison feels a lot less solid and theres always some kinda of rattle in the car.

I think C63's interior is well on par for a 60k car as off the top of my head i can't think of anything else in the price range that has a better interior.

2012 C63 and some other stuff
I have both. The 500 will need ground work if you want more power. It is heavy and my vert is even heavier. Evolution Performance in Chester, PA can rock it from mild to wild. The gates on the shifter are fairly short for a stock shifter.
It is fun and can be made to be more fun . . .but for resale it remains even more true that you will need to demod or you will get crushed more than usual.

If I had choose one daily driver between the GT500 coupe and the C63 and I could not have another car to row gears in it would be tough . . .between a suit with the sleves torn off and t shirt and jeans . . . .If you are thinking about it chances are it could happen so you just need to picture yourself doing the daily stuff in that ride . . .everyone has a ramp they love to launch on or around . . .wife or GF to the movies . . . .run to sev . . . .

If you are happy in the end there is no wrong choice . . . .good luck

Having owned 4 Fords, I'd have to agree. They were all very reliable, great cars as far as that goes. But after 5 years (and 80K) the seemingly beautiful interior was fast becoming junk. Similar to the two Subarus I've owned (but not as bad as that--my Forester had its windshield trim held on by duct-tape after 6 years!).

The German cars are meant to last and meant to maintain their ride for a long, long time. The American cars are meant to maintain for about 5 years, then they deteriorate quickly. That's not a bad thing--you just buy a new car after that happens. As always, it depends on what you're looking for from a car. Do you care about a quiet ride where you can listen to music or talk without yelling? Or are you looking to race at the stoplight? Do you care about spending 8 hours driving across a few states at 90MPH without noticing any fatigue?

Many cars can deliver for a few years, few can maintain a high level for a decade. If you want something for a couple of years, get the GT and have some fun. If you want to drive something for a decade or more without a huge loss in quality, get the Benz.

Context is everything though--I'm assuming you're looking for a daily driver. If you want a cupcake to pamper with 5K miles a year, then the equation changes.
