C63 AMG (Performance & Premium Package) Audi RS4
Here's my mini-review after 4 weeks of winter driving......

-I have new winter tires on....see pics below

-if the roads are not plowed and there is greater than 3 inches of snow, the car performs quite poorly....ESP constantly flashing and difficult to travel faster than 60km/hr period

- I have had the ESP/ABS system temporarly fail (see previous threads) on 2 occasions so far........once from being "overworked" through 10-12in of snow and once on aggressive inclines and declines

-stuck going up my driveway twice......there was some ice below the snow.

-Overall I am a bit dissapointed in the "winter" performance of this car. I think that this is largely due to the fact that I was spoiled with an Audi RS4, and a VW Touareg before that. I did not expect the C63 to be on par with a 4x4 vehicle but I thought it would be better than it is. Our conditions can be quite bad sometimes because of high winds, lots of hills, and the fact that the roads are not always plowed.

-I absolutely love the performance of this car for 8 months out of the year and it is definitely a keeper. However, I will most likely buy a winter SUV next year.

-Just my 0.02

Your description of the winter conditions matches where I live, Calgary, almost exactly. Where are you? I see others driving C63's this past winter, but mine hasn't left the garage since November. I just can't see driving it, it would be a big pain in the *** and I wouldn't even be able to get out of my neighborhood without a lift kit on it. No plowing in my neighborhood.

An rs4 will eat a c63 for lunch during winter.

But overall quite good for a rear whell drive car. Just don't get the rear tires on ice.

Also had the esp stop working one or two times when there was ice. I think it resets when you turn off the motor and start it again.

Did you notice the power steering stopped working too?

-the 1st time it reset after shutting the engine off. the second time i drove on a flat surface and it reset

-power steering went too

-and yes, the RS4 was incredible in the snow

cheers

not surprising at all

Never expected such powerful rwd car to be very good in deep snow.

However for most cities with moderate snow C63 with snow tires will do just fine, well like all rwd cars i suppose

I have Dunlop 3Ds on my C63. lucky for me, I have another car to drive in the wintertime. I've take the car out in a couple of inches of snow and it was no problem. I think more than 6 inches, i wouldn't take it out because I don't want it to get dirty, lol.

Drove through 1 Winnipeg winter last year, did just fine. This winter has been good so far too.

Any Non AWD performance car will be bad in the winter peroid. I am happy so far with the C63 in the winter.

The C of 63's
I came from an s4 to the c63 this winter and can say it did far better then i expected it to do. I live in Calgary and we have had a pretty bad winter so far but with good tires i think she has done quite well. I have pirelli sottozero's and they even got me to kicking horse in a crazy *** snow storm over new years. Other then pulling away from a dead stop i have found the traction control very audi like.

2 cents

Put it in sport mode.

The C63 is a great winter beater. AWD does spoil people. I had an 2005 STi. I have more fun in the 335 or the C63.

Sure pulling away at stop lights is slower than a car with AWD, but there is no need to take off like a douche from every light when it is that icy out.
