Question removing secondary cats

i've done a few searches and couldn't find answers.

are there any direct bolt on applications in removing the secondary cats or does everything have to be cut and welded (custom)?

i want to leave the resonator and get rid of the secondary cats, but just in case leave the option of putting them back on if necessary.

and are there also choices from straight, X, and H?

Yes you have to cut it but brian at gtpro they made a x-pipe where you can bolt the oem back on. You should contact him for more info

wow, that was a long read. i didn't even see if a group buy was ever done. i found it on the site for $695 though. so it's this option to be able to go back to stock or do a straight pipe delete i guess.

if straight pipes are used, is it completely irreversible?

i dont think straight pipes would be "completely irreversible"...but definitely not bolt-on...

C63 AMG Arctic w/ Stage 1 Tune, DoubleXX pipe, MCD-631X coming soon
I can guarantee our Xpipe products to make power, fit well, totally reversible, power sound and lightweight.

We have dyno testing, as well as independent dyno's on many cars that verify our claims. Those here who have our items on the car will tell you themselves that it is well worth it and works!

Give me a call or PM.

Brian, can you post some of those dyno graphs? I'd love to see the before and after for just the X-pipe.

Thank you.

was there ever a group buy for this item and i missed it? is it pointless to think someone would come up with a straight pipe version that's reversible?

Or a straight pipe version that eliminates all 4 cats!

is it correct to think that if needed, the straight pipes could be cut off, and the stock cats can be welded back on?

thats what im thinking would be necessary...hence not bolt-on....granted GTPro's x-pipe is more costly than just having your secondary cats cut off and straight pipe welded on, the gains are proven w/ GTPro...

if you havent seen this recent thread

after removing charcoals was +10whp/+7lb-tq from baseline

after 2nd cat delete/x-pipe was another +5whp/+12lb-tq

total of +15whp/+19lb-tq from baseline
FWIW, my C63 gained almost +6WHP / +14 lb-ft RWTQ on the dyno after my high-flow cats (in place of the oem stock 2ndary cats; the rest of the exhuast is stock) had been installed...slightly higher increase than what the X-pipe is showing. For both dyno's I've done at RENNtech, my charcoal filters had been removed. Not sure if all the gains can be solely attributed to the high-flow cats, but either way, my car dyno'd higher.

So, you replaced your secondary cats with high flow cats and
made those gains?

Was there any change in exhaust sound? Louder?

Those are some decent gains for just swapping cats.

Were did you get the cats?

yep, i read that thread but that particular post was too vague... he didn't dyno it, but ran it at the track where it could have easily have been human error that made him run slower plus a lot of other variables. either way, he ended up with another x pipe and did pretty well i think. i'm not too worried about losing any power, but the sound is more what i'm going for. added power would be a plus.

i also don't know when i would have the time to do any of this anyway, but i'm just doing the research first. but i definitely don't have the funds for a $700 x pipe although i realize it's reversible and proven. i wish i did then i'd go that route. we'll see

Thunderbolt 2.5" inlet/outlet (4" body) 300-cell high-flow secondary cats; purchased online @ www.performance-curve.com for $120/set shipped. Then, I had my local exhaust shop tig weld them on. No real noticeable difference in sound though, imho.

those are excellent gains gator!

just curious but do you think your tune has anything to do w/ it? meaning, if bluejae (who im guessing is not tuned) goes that route, do you think he would match your numbers?

It's certainly possible that a tuned car will show slightly higher gains from additional mods, but I haven't verified that. Also, I believe bluejae either has the LET ecu flash tune or is getting ready to get his car tuned.

Here's what my BS sounds like with just the secondary cats removed:

Can't tell if I picked up any HP...if I did, it's hardly noticable.

Thanks for the info.

I was looking into a mod similar to this but was afraid the exhaust
sound would increase dramatically.

I like the sound of the stock exhaust.
