Just test drove C63 and share my thoughts

Recently I've been shopping a four door performance sedan and the usual suspect are in play except the M3 and ISF.

I just test drove the C63 and was really impressed by the entire package. It's dynamics were very satisfying. Some things I really paid attention to including the straight line speed were the brakes, heralded exhaust, finish and size.

I had an E39 M5 and for some reason couldn't bond with the car so going into this drive I wanted to be quite certain that the size wasn't too big (like I felt the CTSV was). The C63 felt really nimble and fun to drive. The DTM influence makes the C63 so muscular but I didn't find it over the top.

The interior wasn't bad as I had read. The materials (leather and dash) aren't soft touch but I think it's really nice. Personally I don't like the softer materials like the coverings on my M3 and it's Nappa leather. It had some brown wood dash which I didn't care for but not horrible.

The brakes have really great feel like a sports car. Their power is substantial. And what more can be said about the exhaust. I'm surprised the stock exhaust sounds so damn good. I revved the car in the parking lot and it has a really explosiveness to it. I read on this forum about how it burbles on decel and it sounds glorious.

Close to doing a deal but neither car has LSD.

Most of the time the "usual suspects" includes the MS and maybe ISF. Just curious why you ruled them out. Got my C63 three weeks ago and have no regrets. GL....

I ordered one without a test drive.

I have to wait till May to find out if it is all just a dream or not.

I thought about buying a used one and installing an aftermarket LSD. What's the split on the MB LSD?

KC Viper - I've had an M3 and M5 before and the latest Ms don't do anything for me. The ISF is just too ugly. The cars on the list were the RS4 CTSV and the C63.

I was told that I need to order one by March 1 to be guaranteed a May 1 delivery. Does that sound about right? I'm for the key-less go and about 75% FOR the LSD right now.

I test drove all of those cars as well, including the Audi RS4. The Lexus was by far the worst. The ISF's 8 speed transmission was the most annoying thing I've even driven. It's NEVER in the right gear. To top that off with the torque curve is so high in the revs that it's almost unusable and feels more like a 2 stroke motorcycle.

I think everyone makes a HUGE deal on this forum about the interior, and honestly, I have zero problems with it. Looks like a $70k car's interior to me. The high def screen is amazing, the black maple wood looks awesome, the shift knob is very sporty, flat bottom steering wheel very nice to touch and look at, paddle shifters are awesome, gauge cluster is gorgeous...I mean I dont know how many of you are staring at the passenger airbag while you're driving...not me.

There is nothing wrong with the interior at all but maybe some buyers prefer leather dashes etc. I've seen plenty of Porsche 996 Turbos with warping leather dashes.

I agree and really don't have any issues with the interior either.

I love the interior. Some of my friends thought it was even nicer than my M3. If the dash was leather it would be perfect.

btw just took my M3 out for a short drive around the block. And c63 feels just as good I love it.

Everything is perfect except for the leather in the front seat it gets dry and wrinkly.I am so disappointed with quality of the leather they use for C63.i owned alot of mercedes as my family did since am a kid so i have a long experience with BENZ if they just fix this problem it will be the best.

I love the C63's interior. I thought it was the nicest of all the cars I looked at in it's price range, my wife felt the same way.

Just keep the leather treated and it should hold up well. I am most worried about the drivers side left seat bolstering. Hard to get in and out of the car without sitting on this part of the seat and I am afraid it is going to look cracked and ugly in the future. Anyone else having this issue??

I don't like the stiffness of the leather in the C63 either, but that's Nappa leather I guess. Overall though, I love the interior.

KCViper - Mate, by the time the leather starts to crack, I am sure you will have sold the car. Cracking leather is like 5-10+ of use in.

I agree 100%

IMO the base interior in the audi R8 doesn't even look as good as the interior in my car.

I got the beige sahara leather and black maple. Super nice contrast. Let's not forget about the leather covered stiched doors. Come on. The interior is great.

Don't forget about those seats...

They are amazing.

And they look so awesome.

The only other car you can get those seats in is the 100K+$ C63 amg black series coupe.

C63 forever baby.

Just drove next to another C63 today, witch is quite rare. Spoke with the guy at the red light. Great community the c63 one.

Actually he passed me just as i was comming on the freeway. I always love to hear a c63 exhaust. You can even hear some back fire on the upshift if you listen closely.

Man I love my c63.

I tend to keep cars for 8-10 years! I'm not really worried about the leather cracking, but wearing prematurely and getting creases, etc. I'll just keep it conditioned with "Leather Only" monthly and it should be fine. I do love this car!!

I use Connolly leather conditioner for all my leather interiors and it's always worked well. It's what they use for really high end cars like Bentley and Rolls Royce, Ferrari, etc.

Does it make the leather shiny?

I've heard good things about Connolly leather care. I am currently using Leather Only and really like it. In the past, I only used Zaino leather products in my Viper and was very happy with the results.
