Like I mentioned earlier, I was a bit low on oil to begin with. I evacuated approx. 7.5 liters of old oil. The old oil filled the Mityvac in-between the 7 and 8 liter line.

I filled it back up with the required 9-quarts.

The old filter comes out connected to the cap. The shaft remained attached to the bottom of the housing assembly.

Super nice write up!
I guess I'm just not that kind of guy to change oil by myself.
I turned my garage into a bar and I have 4 cars in my family.
If I were to have a free minute I would hang with my wife, kid, dogs, friends etc but not with an oil sucker.
Please don't find this rude it is just my 0.02

You are absolutely right. I just eye-balled/hand-marked it the first time to make sure they were similar lengths (I.e. not too short).

When I insert the vac line into the dipstick tube it certainly hits bottom.

I went back and measured again. I marked the vac line with a Sharpie, even with the top of the dipstick tube when fully inserted. Then I measured that portion of the vac line against the dipstick. The vac line goes in 1.5" deeper. I edited my previous comment. Thanks for pointing this out.

Here some quick pics. The vac line is pretty firm/coiled so I had to tie it to the dipstick so you could see the length/depth comparison.

Actually, your comment was rude and uncalled for. We don't really care what kind of a guy you are or about your garage. Why do you have to make the OP feel lame for doing his own oil and contributing to the knowledge base of this chat board? I usually don't make comments about this stuff, but "just my 0.02".

I'm not going to argue with you.
All of the members are different "kind of guys" and all have their own "0.02 cents" and that is why we share our thoughts here on a public forum.
I wasn't saying anything bad about superlubricity's approach and I was not accusing him in anything and I'm NOT trying to make him feel "lame" for changing his oil. His write up is very informative and clear.
All I did was - share my thoughts.

Its ok if you are doing more frequent oil changes, but the oil cooler should be drain also at regular service interv.

Rechecked the oil again today. Oil level is just at the top red marker on the dipstick.

The dealer also extracts it from the top. This was discussed in the early 2000s here on mbworld and IIRC, the consensus was that extracting from top was as good as draining it.

Is not that I don't like this pump but my main concerns is that the oil pan is designed with the lowest point of gravity being typically the oil pan draining bolt and I just don't trust that tube going all the way deep enough. I would rather have the gravity to the job.

Also curious to hear someone with significant experience (ie not a messageboard jockey) discuss the difference between sucking out vs traditional draining. I agree, if I was to revert back to my old car snob days, no way would I suck the oil up vs draining it to ensure any small particles in the pan came out vs staying in the bottom of the pan.

There's always www.bobistheoilguy.com if anyone wants to search....my laziness outweighs my curiosity on this topic

As noted previously, the dealer uses an extractor to remove the oil from the dipstick tube. The oil pan has a depression under the dipstick tube to ensure all oil is removed.

In my C63 I checked the oil before using my Mityvac to drain the oil. The dipstick showed it was 1.0 qt low. I removed 8.0 qts from the engine. I then filled the engine with 9.0 qts. Checked the dipstick again, and it was exactly at the "full" mark. So all of the oil was removed from the engine, based both on how much oil was removed and how much oil was in the engine after adding the correct amount.

I have used the Mityvac with M271 and M112 engines on my other cars, and the results are the same. On all of these cars, I have jacked the car up a bit in the front to see if I would get oil to drain to the rear of the engine, where the dipstick tube is - in each case I got all of an extra 0.05 qts of oil. So, the Mityvac removes all oil - you don't need to waste your time removing the drain plug.

I was once a skeptic, too -- when I first had my C230K I compared the amount of oil removed via the drain plug vs. the Mityac. There was no difference. Since then I am completely comfortable using the Mityvac.
