This post might have made me a believer.

After so many years I am pretty sick of sliding under cars, having oil splash on me when the drain plug first drops, and having to store cardboard so oil doesn't splash on my garage floor.

Makes perfect sense to me to try one of these things out. Like others I have always heard mixed reviews but maybe the negatives were by people not doing it right.

I found a great socket for the oil filter cap. I just test fitted it today and it fits like a glove!

It is 32mm and works with any 3/8 wrench. Only $6.99.

There are (2) oil pans, one front #6 & one rear #7 pan to drain on the 63's

so is #7 pan lower than #6 pan, thus the mityvac is able to drain all the fluid? someone please confirm, thanks.

Superlube, why is it that everything you purchase is off of Amazon? I'm just curious.

As you can see on part #9 the dip stick tube angles off at the end. This is the spot where the vinyl tube hits resistance before going deeper. I cut a 45 angle at the end of the vinyl tube and it went easier. Super is right that the tube goes about 1.5 inches deeper than the dipstick but make sure you get the tube past that angle at the of the dip stick tube.

Fist off great writeup!

I am still a bit uneasy about this method though. I just don't see how this suction method could suck up any debris/particles when they would clearly sink to the lowest point of the pan. I would imagine that you may get some out but how would you really know you don't have bits of shaving, debris, ect.. still floating around down there? Sorry, I don't mean to be skeptic but I just would like to make just to get everything out of there especially for the first oil change after break-in is completed. After the first one I would definitely consider going about it using this method though.

The filter socket is a must have, I bought one like 15 years ago from a German company called Hazet. Real handy thing to have.

Is there a computer reset necessary after changing the oil and, if so, does anyone know how to do it?

I thought I had looked pretty close in the manuals, and I couldn't find the procedure. Anyone know where the process may be described? I apologize if it's real obvious and I'm just missing it.

Try this:

1.) Key in position 1
2.) Press Call Pickup and OK for 5 seconds
3.) Reset should be in menu that comes up

Work OK?

Thanks for the response. I got to the menu, found where it shows miles and time until next oil change, but cannot find how to reset.

I need some help!! I over filled my ML350's engine oil this evening (about a quart as shown on the dipstick). The only reason I noticed was that as I drove home, about 2 miles, I noticed smoke coming out of the engine compartment. I stopped, opened the hood and on the left (passenger) side of the engine there was oil dripping all over the place. Now it is about 2 hous later and a lot of oil is dripping underneath the car. What is up?

Not to rain on everyones parade but the approved method of oil removal for 63/ 55 engines is to drain them... the reason is oil get trapped in the oil cooler in the front bumper... there is a drain plug on the bottom of it.. dealers do use extractors for other engines but never 63's it leaves about .5 to .75 of a quart in the engine

No rain here.

As mentioned in previous posts, the extraction method outlined here is a great/no-mess "in-between" solution for those wanting more frequent changes than the factory recommended schedule. Draining via both plugs will remove more oil. Nobody is arguing that.

Not according to my neighbor, who is a senior MB Tech. And I was able to watch my "A" service and the oil was indeed drained via the oilpan drain plug.

Very good write-up though and for the inexperienced that INSIST on doing their own oil changes, its safer than cross-threading the drain plug.

Did you properly install the fill cap?

Tanks for your note. Yes, the fill cap was properly threaded and tight.
