How Black is the Metallic Black (197)

I am in the process of finding/ordering a C63. The only black 2010 left in Canada with the options I want is metallic black, but I can able to get a good deal on it. Typically I'm not a fan of metallic black, I would much prefer the non metallic black (040).
My Question: Is the Metallic black ... black? or does it turn kind of blue, greenish, or dark greyish depending how the sun hits it.
I had my heart set on 040 but I can get a few thousand off the 2010.
Should I hold out and order a 2011 with the 040 or is the 197 close enough?

I live in a very small town on the far east coast, no one around here to do that.

My car is Obsidian Black 197 and it's a very deep black. I love it. The previous black metallics I've seen on MBs were (as you said) greenish.
Check this out - maybe it'll help

I went throught the same pain you did when i went to purchase mine. I wanted black but only metallics were available.

To me, the metallic had a lot of flakes in it which made it look like a dirty black car....not a deep black

I actually went in a totally different direction when i found out i had to wait up to 6 months to get a solid black car and ended up getting Palladium Silver and love it

Thanks for the link Matt. Just as I thought the 040 seems to be alot deeper black.

Thats how I usually see the metallics. Same deal here, If i want the 040 I have to wait about 10 weeks, which will be mid november. Since I wont be driving it in the winter, I may as well wait and have it delivered in April '11.
If I get the 2010 metallic now, I would only be able to drive it for about 2 months, then it would be sitting all winter.
So is the 2 months of driving right now (plus savng some cash) worth giving up the color I want and one MY newer?
Its a tough call!!

I have the 040 now, previous car was 197. 197 was hard to keep clean - dirt seemed to show on it more than 040 - and the 197 can appear grayish from certain angles in the sun.

Personally, I liked the 197 a lot more than 040. It is more distinctive and has more personality, but is still menacing.

Regardless of the color, you need to order the car you want, exactly the way you want it. I ordered my car exactly the way I wanted it, but after waiting a couple of weeks I decided I couldn't wait and took one off the lot. It was a big mistake. The little things that are different nag at me.

Thanks for all the comments fellas,
I made up my mind and called the dealer. I'm going to hold out and get a new 2011 (040) in the spring. I know i would regret getting the metallic.

Ordering it now didnt make much sence as I wouldnt recieve it untill mid november, and then parking it from december to april.
Ill place the order offically in January for mid april delivery.
This is going to be a tough 6 months !!!

Ill be floating around learning as much as possible untill then!
