Bad smell from AC vents at start up.

living in a high humidity town (St.Louis,MO.) every time I start
the car with the AC on,it smells bad.
Took it to the dealer and found out there is a bulletin on that problem.
Its with the evaperator and the fix is to clean it.
Two days latter the smell was back, has any one else faced this situation
and what was the fix.
The dealer did not change the cabin filter they said it was OK.
Thanks for any help.

My 09' C63 is at the dealership right now. I just called them and left them a message to remind them to check for this problem in my car. So, thank you for making this post because it reminded me.

This particular dealership (the only one in town for me) does not seem like they take a lot of complaints seriously, so lets see if they deny this one. This smell is aweful, putrid and embarrassing. I really hope it gets fixed.

I can usually reduce or eliminate the smell by pressing the in-cabin circulation button.

As you know, the way to get rid of the smell is to change the cabin filter. Don't take the dealers word, tell them to change your filter, period. I've changed my filters before, and it's easy. The filter is located under and behind the glove box.

This is a fairly common problem on cars. I assume you run the AC right up until the time you turn off your car? If so just turn off the AC 30 seconds and leave the fan on before you shut down the car in order to deal with any remaining condensation.

Cleaning/Shampooing the floor mat might help as well.

Vent odor.

A foam treatment @ the dealer fixed the problem for me, and it was covered under warranty.

I'm gonna have to give this a try.

Thanks for each of the great tips in this thread.

I purchased my car used and I was so stoked on it until my excitement faded enough for the stink to rear itself. Then, I figured I had bad luck and purchased a car that was previously owned by, well, shall we say, a very smelly person.

Now I know this can be remedied. And I intend to do just that.

I just picked up my GL from a service and mentioned them this. No real remedy other than vent cleaning and filter swap.

Try this. When I had an S4 the vent would smell moldy. A SA told me to run the heater to dry the condenser. I ran it last night for a short 10 minute drive (fortunately it was cool in Houston) and it worked on my GL.

Had the foam treatment done yesterday, and this morning on start up there was no smell (for the first time in MONTHS), so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Thx for the post and the info, fellas.
