New c63 owner - couple of questions, tunes, etc

So I just purchased a 2009 c63 (live in Alaska, I think I have one of maybe five in the state...anyone else from AK?) and have a few questions.

1) The dealer told me that it has the performance package. It does not, however, have red brake calipers. I didn't know about these until doing research after buying the car and took the dealer at his word. Did the 2009 not have the red brakes? Is there any other way I can tell if this really has the performance package?

2) I am looking at getting a tune. Currently looking at the MHP v3 and Kleeman K1. I'm leaning toward the MHP because of the HP gains, drag times, and Andy at MHP is telling me they modify the TCU. Cory at Kleeman states they cannot modify the TCU via ECU. Anyone have any information?

3) Anyone have a carbon air box? Is it worth the gains, even after doing an ECU tune? I am finding them for around $1800 online right now.

In MY 2009, they only had the P30 package which did not include the red brakes. If you really want to know what your car has on it, go to your local dealership or call up MBUSA and have them pull you up the invoice of your vehicle. It shouldn't cost you anything.

Ahh, thanks for the info. It must have the P30 and not P31.

The P30 performance package came with two piece compound rotors. Does you car have these? If so, that is a definite glue. Does your car have alcantara suede on the steering wheel? If so, then yes you have the P30 performance package.

The steering wheel has a flat bottom and the sides are leather...not sure if it is alcantara suede. Haven't taken a close look at the rotors. I do know they are drilled/slotted.

You really need to stop playing a guessing game and call MBUSA, provide your VIN and find out the normal way. After all, you paid a crap load of money for something and don't even know what you got? That's like me going to the grocery store paying for what I think was a nice rib eye and coming home asking people if they know If bought rib eye and finding it out it was opossum road kill instead.

From what you describe, it doesn't sound like you have the performance package. To give you a heads up, all C63 have flat bottom steering wheels. But to better tell what your options are, I would visit your local MB Dealer. They can definitely tell your options.

So I called MBUSA and the guy didn't see a P30 package on there but did see other line items related to it. AMG locking differential as well as raised top speed to 174 mph... he said the packaged marketing codes and what was included are not necessarily the same and he could find the components pieced out... although I still don't have a suede wheel. No worries though as seems to have the components from the package.

Any thoughts on the air box and the MHP tune?

Lots of the early 2009 cars that were ordered with P30 got bits and pieces of the package instead of the entire option group.

Aftermarket air boxes have not proven to offer any substantial gains, especially for what they cost. Remove the charcoal filters and install a couple of K&N's or equivalents.

MHP tune is the way to go. The fastest C63's here and at the track are MHP equipped. Get the MHP tune & headers and you'll have a monster!

eurocharged tune seems like a good buy for less than 1k and good results too
