I hear you. I don't know the answer. When I did burnouts, I was in Sport mode. And I didn't get to roast my tires long enough for the trans to even shift. Without an LSD I start to turn sideways. So I did little short bursts to dry the tires and heat them slightly. I mean I stepped on the gas pretty good. Maybe that's why I went sideways: I may have been giving it too much throttle.

But what do you do if you want to really roast your tires for a good 10 seconds or so? I guess just modulate the throttle better.

What do you think?

I never shift into 2nd during the burnout, some do and that works
for them. The heat generated in the trans when doing a burnout
can be excessive, add a shift under full load and this can be a
recipe for disaster, long term of course.

I'm sure all the things we do at the track are a recipe for disaster I've made many many passes doing different sorts of burnouts.. The trans while in a burnout I'm sure feels Less stress then when it's driving wsspecialy when free spinning at high speeds I would think now easy on me the slower the burnout the more the tires are able to grip??

Mike,

I agree, tracking the car definately puts added stress on the parts.
The torque converter takes a beating with heat when doing a brake
standing burnout and shifting just adds to the stress.

I remember having problems back in the day with my Mustang 5.0 with
AOD transmission and frying clutches. My trans guy told me it was
beacuse of excessive 2 gear burnouts.

Letting your trans shift through the gears while doing brake stand burnouts is a recipe for disaster - it cooks the clutch packs. Ask C63 Guy (Josh)...Much better to leave it in M mode and bounce off the rev limiter in 1st gear. Furthermore...Don't you drag guys use line locks for staging burnouts ? I know that saves rear brakes...

I agree, Manual mode, first gear and the occasional bounce off the
rev limiter for me.

I may do a line lock soon.

I'm in it for fun too, if I have to rebuild the trans some day, I will. Just
trying to avoid it from happening prematurely. Also, just my opinion I
think these transmissions are stronger than they are letting on but
ultimately heat is the enemy. I know the 2010 transmissions have a
higher torque capacity.

Keith's car has to have way over 100+ passes on it, I wonder if he does
2 gear burnouts or has a line lock? I know he had a problem with the
trans when he tried nitrous.

Blow the trans and don't rebuild it, throw an MCT in there !!! I'd love to figure out how to get one in my BS. After driving a few AMG's with this gearbox I can't stop thinking how much better my car would be with it :banghead:

Good to know.

So far, this trans seems to be pretty strong.

Without a doubt the C63 is the FASTER car.

Chance of rain is now at 60%. Talking to the Subaru guy going, he was saying they will run rain or shine per an email he got. But there is doubt about the dragstrip portion so it may just be the auto-x in the wet. How is the traction control on this car?
Tips for wet driving? Would it help to run a full tank of gas in that setting? How many gallons does the tank hold? I can probably bring enough jugs to fill the car and just wait and see if we need it or not. I have zero experience in the rain (for car racing).

You're right about that! Mine has the LSD and in the rain it's all over the place. No traction in ANY gear - that's the downside of torque. My M6 is much easier to drive in the wet. If he has no track experience in the dry, he's going to be really lost in the wet.

One more thing. If it indeed rains during the event or it's a wet course, the M will have another advantage with it's adjustable suspension .....

I appreciate the response and will say that you have been totally professional about this entire situation......beyond your years actually. The members really don't care as much about which car was selected from each forum as they are frustrated about our appointed drivers lack of experience. Most of us really wanted to see two heavily modified cars with experienced drivers having an epic battle. But that is not to be.
