So it's time for a new car. Lease is up on the c350.
We have a c63 at our summer house, and i love it.
but ive driven a w204 for 3 years now, and i kinda want a completely different model to drive. So i've considered the Nissan GTR which also is all wheel drive for our crappy winters.

What do you guys think? have you driven them?
I will test drive it after the holidays!

My father (68) just ordered the 2011 GT-R (delivery june 2011). Completely different car. Canīt compare them, the GT-R is a genuine sports car.

Considering that the GT-R is completely different animal I would suggest you head over to some Porsche or other sport car forums and see, read comparisons there.

Get both, they fulfill separate "fun" needs. As stated there is no way to compare the 2 as they just to different.

I have a c63 and a higly modified Subaru STI (406 whp) and drive both as I have the urge for either comfort (right foot steering) or light wight AWD twisties.

Wait (if you can) and get a 2012 GT-R; 523 HP (compared to the 480 HP in the current models), revised suspension and a stiffer chassis. They should be coming out sometime next year.

if you have a bit more cash go for a used manual 997 turbo. I ve driven both gtr and turbo and its just world apart as far as driving pleasure is concerned. The Porsche is truly a magical car.

997 Turbo is not a fun car to keep running and almost all engine work requires dropping the engine out of the car to work on it. 997 is an AMAZING car but you GTR is still the better everyday car. Does Nissan offer any maintenance packages for the GTR or are you on your own, if so, that would really put it ahead of the 997.

997 is quiet reliable as long as you don't chip it. While the six speed will last forever. I would say within first 100k its gonna be fine. I mean people don't put on a lot of milage on these cars for the most part.
Regarding the maintainance package I am not sure about in the states but up here nissan offers an extended warranty for around 8grand covers up to 160k km. However my friend got the package and its a piece of crap. Nissan will still charge u for every little thing like oil change and even tire inspection. Overall Nissan service sucks bad up here. By the way if you ever turn the traction control off or use launch control few times u void the extended warranty.
Personally I would get a low milage turbo and get an extended warranty for it

One of my buddies is a hardcore Porsche guy, He owns a modded 997 turbo and a 800hp 996 TT. I wasn't into Turbos all that much but after speaking with him and being around his cars, I had a new found respect for the turbo, Truly an amazing car.

I've heard many different things about that launch control voiding the warranty thing (even from GTR owners) - I would check with Nissan to get the real story. But get what you want; definitely hold out judgment until post-test drive.

I just got rid of my GTR, definitely not cuz I wanted, but I had to, I miss the damn thing like crazy, I was doing 543whp/565tq and the car would push you on the seat like no other, said by all my friends when they would ride in it, I was use to it, lol... It's a great car for sprints and quarter mile racing, great for upgrading and entertainment if you like that stuff, there is nothing in this world they don't have for that car, tranny shifts faster than you can blink, it's a lot of fun... If I was you I would get it in a heartbeat over a 997T, I like the fact that it's a new car that you are getting and also it's "automatic".

I guess you have to consider other things, Gtr is in another league from the C63, I drove a c63 once and it felt like I was walking my dog, but if you need the back seats or have kids etc then I guess is a better option, comparing the 997 I guess you have to think what you want to do with the car in the long run, if you want to build it and hate pedal clutches then GTR, if you like to feel more in control with a Manual tranny and plan on not doing much to the car then the Porsche might be a better option as the parts are even more expensive than for the GtR... Whatever you do just wait for the 2012 GTR if that's your choice... Trust me its coming much better, I'm getting one as soon as I'm done with school in like 2 years....

Like any sports car, if you abuse it and break it the manufacture is probably going to give you **** with the warranty, I have a buddy that has over 600hp and has over 100 passes on his stock tranny and it runs great, all depends your luck I guess, but yes if you break it you probably won't be covered, I loss my warranty am sure coming out of the dealer cuz I was already putting all types of crap in the car, don't sweat it I you break it they have awsome tranny upgrades and gears for it cheaper than the stock one the dealer will put on which will cost 30 grand.

Just get the car and enjoy it, don't let the tranny rumors kill it for ya, is a great car

997.2 Carrera4(S) 6speed or if you drive a lot with PDK, the GT-R is a very good combo but a Porsche is a Porsche....

It is a no brainer. The GT-R outperforms the C63 in every racing scenario.
