Really interesting thread. These weight savings are amazing, but unless you track your car, is it really worth the $$$. Considering the price of some of these mods, probably not IMO.

How much do you guys think this would affect gas mileage?

Is there a light-weight battery available that would be good for a daily driver?

If you break it down a lot of them are free weight savings...

Passenger Seat
Spare
Headrest
Cushions

124lb's without spending a dime.

Beyond that the Battery is a cheap solution to drop 45lb's so without hurting your wallet on the track day you can save 169lb's. You can drop .15 off your time for the price of this battery. Thats a good deal indeed.

Light weight for a DD? Why bother? You will probably only save about 10-20lb's at most. For a DD you wont feel the difference at all.

Great thread though... Thanks in whole to Dodger and Mthis and others who have discovered these tricks for us.

Fine, Jon cant drive... isn't Hagi Jon's weight or a little above? Let him drive! lol

Just a quick correction that the F14 18s were also tested at 1500 lbs, I see you mention 1200 twice and then 1500, maybe just an error. thanks!

Actually, I have sets of both and there is a difference. The original F14s were stamped 1200 lbs. They are about .7-lbs lighter per wheel than the newer 1520 lbs stamped ones. The design is slightly different too but only noticeable in the thickness of the spokes near the center of the wheel.

Do you have the rear evo rotors, how much do they save

I used a few (4 I believe) Oddisey PC680 batteries. These batteries are the number one choice and weight only 11-13lbs.

Although the weight savings are proven the number one complaint is the rapid discharge. Go to other car forums and see. These batteries wouldn't start your car if you leave it park for 3 weeks or more. Another comun brand is the braille batteries.

I have some questions. I was telling my buddy who drives a BMW 135 about this battery weight savings idea.

He found some discussion online that said the weight savings from the lighter battery is very good but it should be factored against the amount of additional parasitic loss that the engine may see from the alternator having to charge the lighter battery more often?

My initial response was that even if you lose 6-10 bhp from the alternator contributing to greater parasitic loss, when you have a car that comes stock with 450 bhp, and then you get it tuned and maybe even add LT's, any affect on hp from additional parasitic loss is more than made up for with the weight savings from the lighter battery and more importantly, how that weight savings adds together with additional weight savings mods. (sorry for such a long sentence).

Plus, I don't imagine the lightweight battery constantly needs to be charged when the car is driving. Is that true? When the car is driving, does the alternator need to constantly charge the battery?

What do you guys think?

Also, another weight reduction mod that my buddy told me about: draining the windshield washer fluid. I haven't checked under my hood, but does anyone know how much fluid is in that canister?

Guys, I've been running carbon fiber Braille batterys for years, they are great batteries. I put one in my Black Series about two years ago, saved me close to 50 pounds but I had issues when I sprayed nitrous, battery is too small for the draw of the nirtous system.

WARNING DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RUN ONE OF THESE BATTERIES IF YOU ARE RUNNING NITROUS!
