The new M5
Who is considering the future M5 as their next car?
I just can't see myself liking a slower car after owning this beast. Maybe another C63 if it gets the 5.5. The only other choice is CTSV, which is really not that much faster during daily driving.

I actually like the CLS63 too. I think it looks better than the new M5. With the AMG Development Pack, it should be a beast. I'm expecting 0-60 times south of 4.
Those F1 commercials with the E63 and CLS63 just keep on showing how beautiful the new CLS63 AMG is.
I probably won't get it, but I'm number 2 on my dealer's list for the new M5. Unless the new M5 has awesome performance numbers (sub 3 second 0-60, a ring time in the 7:5x's) then no deal for me.

Sub 3 sec on the M5? This is a typo, right? Or am I out of the loop?
I'm strongly considering the new CLS63 to replace my C63 in a few years, I just hope that exhaust sounds better in person--we're spoiled by our n/a beasts

Wow I can't believe we agree on something the P30 pkg is a must for the CLS63.

my bad, that was definitely a typo. I meant sub-4. there's no way that 4000+lb car will get to sub-3.
like I've always said, I've always had tons of respect for the C63. I hope the Black Series comes out soon... I'm itching for a new car

I actually drove this car last sunday at an amg driving school. It was amazingly smooth but it was big and was kind of boring to drive. I will say though, I probably had my fasted lap in that car (though, I did know the track a lot better by the time I drove it. I probably would have had a faster time in the C63 if I would have known the track better when I took it out)

Did they say when they should be hitting dealerships?

But just to be clear, the C63 was the most fun car of all the amg's. And I drove every amg car except the sls.
They just told me that it wasnt at dealerships yet, they didnt say when it was going to be available. The car I drove was a prototype and they wouldnt let us take the traction control off or take it out of c mode.

The power delivery was the smoothest of every amg car I drove. Im sure it was fast but it just didnt feel fast because of its size and smooth power delivery. It definatly felt like it was the best built amg. It felt very solid and you could really feel the difference between it and the other mercedes.

Maybe you're not such a bad dude after all
If you're itching now, you can't wait for the BS--I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think the C BS is going to be as epic as the CLK was/is.
Get a CLS w/ p30 or whatever they call it.

I'm doing the Lime Rock event in exactly a month and I was under the impression the SLS was fair game?
Was the CLKBS there?
Which track did you do?
Cool to hear the new CLS was there, I was told they would have surprised for us!

This was not the AMG driving academy. It was the AMG performance drive. The sls was there but we were only aloud to sit in it. Now at the AMG driving academy, the sls will be there to drive. Im signed up for that at Laguna Seca in october.

Okay cool, I was very pumped to drive the SLS, I can't wait.
I wonder if the CLKBS will be replaced with the CLS?
I guess I'll know in another month.
Thanks Cellryuu.

Im not considering the M5 as my next car but it is going to be a complete beast.
I still prefer the older N/A V10, one of the best engines BMW has ever made imo.

The new M5 is projected to launch in Europe Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 in the States which coincides nicely with me having to change my company car. My short list:
1. BMW M5
2. CLS 63 AMG PP
3. C 63 Black
Ken

Veyron weighs 4400 lb :P But i guess that's quite far away performance wise compared to the CLS or M5...

Is it just me - or has the reality of what a 0-60 time means to actual performance diminishing. With all the power cars have these days, 0-60 times are more a function of traction than they are of power-to-weight ratio. Case in point the 2012 Nissan GTR. 0-60 in 2.9s, 11.2 1/4 mile.

cyberorth, I was considering waiting for the new M5.
I test drove the 550i with the m sport package just so I could feel what the new 5 series is like.
While it's a quick and comfortable car, I felt like I was driving a lincoln town car.
Totally disconnected from the road, floating on air.
Not what I was looking for.
I know the M5 will drive much differently, but it's all I could compare it to.
Decided I wanted something smaller that I could throw around a bit more.
Drove a C63 the next week and I was hooked!

I think the new m5 is going to gain some serious weight, considering the new 550i now almost 4400lbs (based on the bmwusa specs). I think you are looking at 4300 lbs M5. I doubt performance will be stellar considering the weight gain. Guess will see, I expect the new M5 to be close to CTS-V or a little better in performance, but not a significant jump by any means.
