I guess Bayview and York Mills area is no longer a safe neiboroughood. Time to move up north...sigh. I almost had similar encounter downtown at the Skydome parking, I was lucky they only removed two of my wheel nuts.

Am I the only one who thinks people who do stuff like this should be shot on sight?
They don't deserve to exist in our society.

he's 16, he should be old enough to know that he reaps he shall sow..

To shoot or not to shoot; a few musings

The concept of private property is truly a tenent of our culture and democracy. Our laws and the accepted interpretation of legal precedent ensures this. However in the real world, killing somebody over some rims and tires are you kidding me? Legal fees alone would surpass the price of your car - regardless of the outcome of any possible criminal charges. You may be able to prove that your life was threatened and you responded with an appropriate level of force - as much as any reasonable man would - but you are still going to pay - and pay dearly.
Plus, Charles Bronson, are you cold enough to waste some dude stealing your rims and be comfortable with that for the rest of your life? Probably not. It would eat you up at night. Sometimes restraint is the true measure of a man and a measure of his discipline. Of course when that tire thief is lunging at you with a rusty knife or raising a sawed off shotgun; your decision to use lethal force is clear, clean, and without hesitation. Then the costs of a legal defense are justified.

Wow! That's horrible, I hope he/she/they get caught asap.

OP you might want to take this as a sign and install a proper alarm system for the garage and the car since from what I read, it didn't seem like ur car alerted you. Video cameras are not a bad idea as well.

Hopefully though your insurance will do what is right and get you some new wheels soon.

Yes
Most wheel locks can be removed pretty easily by an experienced or creative thief. You need locks/lugs that are soft and will strip without the key, or like ACG posted which I assume only spin through the inner cylinder.

I know about this law, but I really don't understand the reasoning behind it. Seeing so many crimes happening these days, I just can't live without having a gun at home, and knowing that if someone comes in to my home, I can protect myself.

Have a friend who lives in Canada where a person high on drugs came in a shot up the house. Good thing they were able to hide and not get shot. I really don't understand why you are not allowed to defend yourself, and it is damn hard to own a gun in Canada...which as I understand will not allow you to own one for purposes of self defense.

Wheel locks. Good ones because the ones you can get from your auto store are BS. My wheel locks came with a replacement guarantee.

What kinds if wheels were they? Keep your eye on eBay and Craigslist.

Hmm.. time to put on my inventors hat... They have explosive bolts for all kinds of things (usually industrial).. time to make a pair of explosive lug nuts.. don't use the right key to deactivate.. and boom, wheel jackers loose their hands (it would be worth the damage to the car.. not sure how insurance would react though... )
