Talking Ordered My 2012 C63 AMG Sedan!

Well I finalized the paperwork on a Magnetite Black C63 Sedan this evening. Looking forward to taking delivery in a week or two when the AMG winter tire package comes in.

The dealer offered me a bunch of protection packages which Ive declined, but the windshield protection program called "Diamon-Fusion" caught my eye as it provides free chip repair and will replace the windshield if a crack develops. Has anyone gone with this windshield protection package before? If so, are there any catches or caveats to get a windshield replaced? Ive read stories about claims being denied because chips were not reported within two days etc. Its definitely not cheap at $1125 for 5 years and a $100 deductable for a replacement, but it includes up to 3 replacements or up to $4000 worth of replacements and labour. In Calgary, we get our roads sanded with gravel from the fall to the spring and its easy to collect a lot of rock chips. My C350 has been lucky as I only had to fill one chip in from a big rock on the highway. Any insight is appreciated!!

Check with your insurance Agent

I would check with your insurance agent regarding your comprehensive coverage. In US, a broken windshield is covered under comprehensive portion of the insurance and you only pay the deductible to replace the glass. if a stone hit the glass and you want to "seal" the chip area/small crack instead of getting a new windshield glass replaced, some insurance company will waive the deductible. In short, this coverage offered by your dealer is pretty useless in US. Even if your insurance in Canada does not cover windshield problem, you probably want to check how much it cost to replace the windshield. I have a windshield replaced in my Honda a few year back (because the crack is getting to big to "seal"), it only about about $450 part and labor to replace it with a OEM windshield.. So check with a glass company (not the dealership) to see how much they will charge for replacing the windshield in your model...

Yes
Absolutely ditto. Most comprehensive includes windshield for your deductible (and chips for free), and some even include free windshield replacements as its a safety issue.

I did speak with my insurance prior to ordering the car just to make sure I wasn't going to pay through my nose for getting a more expensive and powerful car. Up here, they do not cover glass unless you sign up for their coverage. Limited glass coverage is what I had before when I was leasing my C350 which covered everything but the windshield. Full coverage according to my insurance the last time I asked them was around $275/year which is more than the "Diamon-Fusion" coverage. I think insurance would be more lenient about reporting chips and cracks than the "Diamon-Fusion". I can see the fine print putting a bunch of ridiculous conditions to be able to get a replacement done under warranty. I read on a FJ forum that because the guy did not report his/her chips within two days of getting them, he breached his contract and the company was not liable to replace the windshield under warranty. Stuff like that is what makes me think twice about things like this no matter how good of an idea it seems.

As for costs, windshield replacement can be as cheap as $200 for Honda Civics which are a dime a dozen, but knowing me, if I did need a windshield replacement, I'll definitely be getting a Mercedes windshield and not a 3rd party one which will ballon the cost to right around $1000. Bah, I think I just talked some sense into myself and am not going to get the windshield warranty. I'll definitely confirm with my insurance what their coverage is as it is not part of comprehensive. (Interestingly enough, my insurance agent told me that I would be pleased to know that my insurance is going to go down by swapping from the C350 4MATIC to the C63 AMG haha...saved me 1/6 of the cost!!)

Thanks noodleman, I can't wait to get my hands on my C63, it's been a long time coming and a dream car come true ever since I picked up my C350 4MATIC.

Haha, yeah that is my C before I got the lux grille installed. Surprised they left those pics up, I thought they would have replaced them by now haha...

personally i don't think it's worth it. $1200 for 5 years...just think about it. Are you going to replace 3 windshields in 5 years of owning the car? I know stone chips could be a problem for you, but if you looked over how many times you had to replace a windshield or fill a chip you'd probably find that it's better to just pay out of pocket rather than going with these warranties.

Yeah I already asked her to write me up without it, but gave it some additional thought last night. It's probably not worth it, it'll definitely be more worth while to pay out of pocket as I don't have to worry about meeting warranty requirements, etc.

Thanks Helms!

Just spoke with the dealer today and I'll be taking delivery of it early next week depending on the weather. AMG wheels for the winter tire package are backordered and they don't know when they will come in, so I will have to roll the dice and pray for warm weather this weekend and early next week until I can get her home. I don't think the stock tires are going to do anything for me if it cools down and freezes up. Already arranged to have the front end protected with XPEL paint protection, full front clip including bumper, full hood, full fenders, a-pillars, roof, and mirrors as well as tint on the rear windows if time permits.

Everyone please keep praying for warm weather in Calgary until Thursday, I need all the help I can get to get her home safe!!!

Nope, I actually sold my C350 to one of my best friends parents, I left everything on the car for them. If they are the same, I'll probably try to find a smoked pair for the C63 to better match the colour Thanks for the tip though!

Congratulations on your new car. You may have a few sleepless nights thinking about it coming. Over here free windscreen replacement is part of most insurance policies.

Thanks everyone! Harold1898, unfortunately it is not included in my plan and they told me it will add about $250 to my insurance costs so basically it turns out to be a little more expensive than the stuff the dealer is selling. In the end, I'm opting out of both and will replace the windshield when it is needed. Keeping my fingers crossed I won't have to in the future.

Looks like the weather is getting better, just some light snow today then it gets into the positives on Monday with the hottest day on delivery day! I might just make it home in one piece!

Picked up my new C63 this morning. I was planning on taking it to get XPEL put on the front end right away, but my installer had an emergency to tend to, so I ended up taking it home. Won't be heading out until Friday to get the XPEL put on before I can drive her around town without worrying about rock chips.

Here's some pics (not the best, I took these on my phone just before I parked it in the garage and headed down to work):

congrats on the order: I didn't really read many of the posts here, but I had a rock hit my E63 windshield when it was two weeks old.........ended up paying the 1000 to replace it.....because I only have liability on all of my cars.....
so with that being said, I'd actually consider the extra insurance thing.......
but again, I am a bit different....
I choose not to fully insure my cars because 1) it won't be my fault if my car gets damaged, and 2) I hate paying all that money to car insurance companies, and 3)
I paid cash for my cars thus far and do not NEED to have full coverage....

Could be true, but We've had to have 2 new windshields in our E-Class Cab (At £1500 each) luckily covered by insurance. This has been in the space on 5-6 months. We've only put 5000-6000 miles on it. This car has been a bundle of badluck

I've had my windshield cracked due to debris on the road and dealership tried to charge me $1300+ for it. Not sure how much your windshield would cost, but that warranty would've saved me a lot of money lol. I take my car canyon running all the time too so rock chips are flying at my car all the time.

Well done....nice rims.....same as ours!!.....wasn't sure about these rims before we took delivery.....only that I thought the car needed 19s.
Now that we have the car, I'm happy I ordered them.
Enjoy, Pickles.

Did you hit and snow with those summer tires on it??? danger.

The multi spoke 19's make the car. With the 18s the car is hideous.

Did they give you free winter tires and rims on the 18s??? Poooorrr car driving it in Calgary winter so much rocks and salt... Im in Etown.. Enjoy, it looks great.
