Why do most cover their lic plates in pictures?

Just looking for opinions. I never do it, but notice some of you do. My justification is that our plates are readily visible at all times. Nothing can be safeguarded by covering the plate in a photo. People can photograph your plates all day. Its not as though its an item with serial numbers that could be reported stolen or used for insurance claims...

it's easier for thieves to look up license plates on a forum than it is to randomly bump into the car in person to get the plate number for your personal info. And then can easily figure out what you modded on your car so see know what they can take (that's worth money).

I do it as a precaution.

That and given that we are in the AMG forum with lots of accounts of how our cars perform on the street...not the best idea to have your car easily identified.

It's PII (personally identifiable information). Controlling your PII help protect your privacy and prevent identity theft.

As noted above, some people have access to db where they can find a lot of personal info from a license plate.

The less info that is out there the safer you are in regards to identity theft.
