Its fake 4g. Its more of a marketing ploy for AT&T to differentiate themselves from Verizon on Sprint iPhones. The CDMA networks that Verizon and Sprint uses is not capable of this technology. It is faster than 3g but its no means 4g. More like 3.5g.

HSPA+ is 4g. 4g lte is 4g lte. And my antenna is better than yours (LOL!). And Apple kills all wannabes and sues them left and right too!

Android is for people who can't type like you. Hahaha, for reals man, I'm just pulling everyone's leg. I don't care about 4g, 3g, etc... All I care for is my amG!

It's ATT trickery no iphone has 4G at the moment LTE is way faster can't wait to get the next iphone for it. The 4S is faster, but it's still not real 4G

So I'm going by real world speeds here. Last night I was with a few friends waiting for our table in a restaurant and we were all in our phones doing what not. It so happen that one of em has the Iphone 4, a couple with ATT 4s. I have the upgraded software that shows the 4G and the other still with the older software and another with an Android LTE phone. So with this group I found an opportunity and told them about this thread and how people are debating the iphones 4G capability. Then one of the guys suggested we do a real time speed test. In actual time we all went to Facebook at the same time and opened a particular video and guess what. The 4S 4G was running as fast as the 4S 3G. The Lte is slower and the iphone 4 was slowest. Now you all Android lovers can debate this all you want but I'm just saying we did this in real time. Opening the same exact app and video, I think this is the truest test you can have in my opinion.

I have an I-phone 4s here in the UK and would say that it no faster than what the 3G was.
I suppose youre going to tell me that your I-phone can work the 2012 Online command as well!

The test performed above is not a valid test. There are far more things that impact the performance of a device, especially when it comes to video. The iphone 4 and 4s both have extremely fast processors, as well as much higher end graphics chips built into said chip (I believe the 4 uses the A4 Cortex, and the 4s uses the A5 Cortex CPU, they are ARM based, and the company that made them originally was purchased by Apple, the A5 is actually a dual core cpu as well).
Currently, most phones, and this includes the iphones, cannot process the data as fast as the device can receive via the network interfaces.
That being said, The ITU (the group responsible for defining the standards), bowed to ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon pressure to drop the minimum speed requirement for the 4G, which was originally devices capable of 150mbit/sec if my memory services me.. It is now whatever the carriers want to call it.. it is a shame really. At the time of the original minimum specs, only LTE and WiMAX. WiMAX is mostly dead now though, which leaves LTE. Verizon LTE and ATT LTE are not the same either, ATT is much faster currently, and does VoLTE (Voice over LTE), where as VZ still uses the CDMA radio for Voice, and only uses LTE for data, hence why you cannot use data and make a call at the same time.
All that being said, ATT and T-Mobile have defined their 4G as anything that supports HSPA+, of which there are 2 variants, I cannot remember the actual speeds, but basically the second gen HSPA+ is just faster then the first, but no where near as fast as LTE.
Using an actual speedtest, with HSPA+ I get around 6 to 8 mbit/sec (note, it is bit, not byte), with LTE when I am in range (in DC or Baltimore, but not in Annapolis/Bowie where I live), I typically get around 30 to 70mbit/sec depending on time of day and tower congestion.
BTW, I have both a 4S and the Galaxy S II Skyrocket (The LTE version of the Galaxy S II Android phone). My Skyrocket is significantly fast then my 4S, since it has hardware graphics acceleration for a number of video apps (including flash)

The AT&T tech mentioned to me that the iPhone 4S is actually a 4g but not the 4G LTE. This was when I pre-rdered mine way before the release date. There was this marleting limitations that they have to say 3G even though that it is faster the 3G. I upgraded mine last Saturday but I only noticed the 4G this morning. I though that it was 4G all along.

The ATT tech is talking out his ***.. Again, read my statement, while the ITU backed off on the minimum spec requirements for 4G, the reality is, unless it is LTE or Wimax, it is not true 4G.. it is FauxG, HSPA is 3G.. HSPA+ is 3.1G (similar to GPRS and Edge.. 2G and 2.5G, even though Edge was called 3G for a while as well).
Never trust anything the carriers tell you.. trust the nerds of the world
Edit: Side note.. 4G means 4th Generation, and technically only Wimax and LTE count, and nothing else, HSPA and all its incarnations are 3rd generation.
