My model year 2010s have engine numbers 53661 on the C63 (delivered 5/11/2009) and 59086 on the ML63 (delivered 10/05/2010). So based on that it would extend up well into MY2010 and maybe beyond. If someone can give me an early delivery US VIN for MY2011 I can look it up.

My car was delivered May 14 2010 and it is close to 1500 engines before the up to #1569xx 06 060658. That may take it past 2010 model year production and into 2011.

latest update:
Picked up the car yesterday night.
invoice shows all lifters replaced, all head bolts, gaskets, coolant, two oil changes (one to break-in the lifters), a myriad of "screws, gaskets..." with part numbers. Dealer cleaned up the car and did a nice job getting it back together. Car always ran well, feels normal.
Altogether good dealership experience, about 10 days to complete.

Though I rather not have it happen to you, but congrats on getting it done under warranty. I wonder how much this would cost post-warranty?

hmmm...mine is down. not nearly the same though. 09 46k miles. Car was fine then all of a sudden started running horrible like one or some of the coil packs died. At a stop it's pouring smoke out of the exhaust. smells like raw fuel? We'll see on Monday or Tuesday whenever they get to it.

Wow, same thing happned to me on Friday night (51K KM in an 08). So much smoke I stopped the car in an area with no stopping lane and pushed (downhill) to a safe spot. Hoping nothing serious but I think is going to be bad.

Hi All,
I have a 2010 ML63 and 2010 C63, both of which are in the range. I subscribed to STAR TekInfo and found the service bulletin:
01-05-2012 Star Bulletins LI LI01.30-P-051567_Ver.1a
LI (0bytes)
As you can see by the byte count, it's an empty document and returns an error when selected.
Perhaps someone can get the details and actions MB will take if one experiences the problem.
Regards,
Joe

I'd really like to get a copy of this document. Given I don't put alot of miles on my car my warranty will most likely expire before the problem occurs. I'd like to convince my dealer or MBZ that this is a defect they need to pro-actively fix.

I spoke to my local MBZ dealer lead tech (not the brainless service advisor) who confirmed the service bulletin on Startech addresses the issue of failed headbolts, however he was not allowed to give me a copy of it. He indicated they have repaired a "few" 6.3 engine with the problem, one with as few as 20K miles on it. He indicated that MBZ has updated head bolts to remedy the problem "if it occurs". MBZUSA will not retro fit the engine with the updated head bolts until the problem occurs. I also spoke with a well regarded local indy (that work on lots of C63s) who indicated the problem is more common than MBZ would like to admit. Next step is to seek a written response from MBZUSA. More to follow. Let's keep this thread alive.

C63 engine issue
Sorry to hear that. MB called me last night, 1,3 and 8 cylinders no compression and coolant in those 3 cylinders. Sounds like a different reason to yours. Not sure yet on overall damage yet. Only had the car 6 months and its just come out of warranty.

yikes no warranty? think I would have grabbed it back and pulled some shady insurance fraud or something. I would not want to be paying for this mess. But yes I agree mine seems very different just lots of problems for a couple simple injectors failures.

Since it just came out of warranty, I hope MB of Aus will step-up and take care of the problem.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Besides a cracked block or heads or porous cylinder walls (highly unlikely) the only way to get water in your cylinders is from a head gasket failure. Unless you over heated the engine (which you surely would have noticed) and warped a head, failed head bolts would seem to be the most likely cause. Since its both odd and even cylinders it would seem both sides have failed. Did you get a low coolant level light or a high oil level light prior to this happening. Keep us informed.

Perhaps the plaintiff attorneys for that suit shouldn't start negotiating a settlement. The potential headbolt failure would seem more catastrophic than worn lifters.
