2012 MCT....Changing settings while driving
When I had my 09 C63 I was able to change the transmission settings while driving, even into and out of manual mode. I don't know what the manual said in regards to this, but there was never a problem doing it.
Does anyone know if it is safe to do this in the 2012? The manual says not to, but does anyone have any info on if there is real damage potential?

It is an electronic transmission in a sense that there is no requirement to stop the car, you are allowed to and it was designed for this.

yes. this warning in the manual is unfounded. i do it all the time.....no problems. if it was harmful......there would be a safety function that would force you to stop to change modes.
its just one of the dumbest things i have ever read in an automobile manual. all it is, is an electronic change is shifting logic. i wouldnt floor it and change modes but any other situation.....go for it.

I change mine when I'm at a consistent speed and throttle so it doesn't try anything funny mid-shift. Seems pretty safe to me.

i always change mine with my foot off the throttle.. so after changing, it can change to whatever gears it needs to on it's own... then back on the throttle

I'd also avoid changing it from C to S at crawling speed as you may get a clunk as it changes back to 1st. I always make sure I've come to a complete stop when I do this.

The book only says to stop the car when going into MANUAL Mode. I never did this in my 09, and by the responses so far, it seems OK to do it with the upgraded tranny.

The tranny is electronically controlled. If it would damage the transmission in any way... even going into M... the car would not allow you to switch modes. It would be very simple for MB to limit the ability to change modes if they wanted or if needed. They wouldn't allow you to do this if it would damage the car becauce a huge majority of C63 owners would never read or see this in the manual and they would be getting broken tranny's all the time

No issues except for when I did it while I was flooring it -it wouldn't accelerate. Took my foot off the gas, reapplied 1 sec later and everything was back to normal. In any given drive Im always going back and forth because I feel really guilty keeping it in M all the time.

The manual says you can switch from C to S to S+ while driving. Only when stopped can you/should you switch to M mode.
I haven't tried.... And I won't... Just in case.
