If I am at a red light...

And a car let's say an M3 pulls up alongside me, what's the BEST way to launch and get the absolute BEST take off from a full stop position??
(in regular conditions, no rain, no traffic, about 70 degrees F).

I am still fairly new to my car and I was doing some experimenting last night in which I found the car to kind of be hesitant or felt like it didn't want to just TAKE OFF upon MASHING the pedal from a stop. I don't think it was the traction control, it just felt like it was had a lag or something?

I had it in Sport Handling Mode and tried both S+ (which is just totally INSANE on the highway while at 50mph+ )
but I still feel like I am doing something "wrong" when taking off from a standstill.
That said, I am getting pretty good at the "Race Start", however I would think it's tough to try and time a perfect launch if per say I was in a situation where another car is egging me on to "race" once the light hit GREEN..
Thanks for any input and good wknd to all

I give m3s the jump and still reel them in easily both when I was untuned and tune.
I never did a real dig race in this car but maybe brake and gas to 3krpm and launch.

You don't "mash" the throttle ... you roll into it

BRAKE while giving it some GAS.. I'm SMH because I didn't even think of that.
I guess it's bc I've driven manuals my whole life... and the last thing I'd want to do is rev it up in "N" and drop it to "D"

Thanks! I shall give it a go tonight

not sure if that'll work with your 2012.. assuming he proposed you power brake it shouldn't work with the MCT considering it's tq converter-less

Damn.. I was all excited too. I guess I'll toy around some more and try it anyhow as well...
One method I've tried is turning the traction control OFF, and it seemed pretty effective... however I am just too paranoid of the rear sliding out even while holding the wheel completely straight

You need to know how to control your car. There is nothing more fun than driving it with ESP off. Go to a big mall parking and try to learn how to drift, how to know your car and its limits.

Not only are you trying to pick on "little" guys, but don't even have car control without TC? ..... let me give you some good advice: Try to learn how to handle the car first before thinking about racing someone

to be quite honest, NOPE, not much experience with the TC off..
The roads are horrible in the NYC area, and I don't trust myself to be driving at high speeds weaving in and out of even light traffic w it completely off.
That said, I've been driving ///M's for the last 10 years or so, and even with the TC on, the car feels unbalanced when I'm weaving in and out at high speeds.
I guess I'll take "Guilty's" advice and head to a huge open parking lot and do some serious driving and learn...
Again, back to my main question, I was pretty much asking what's the best way to TAKE off from a dead stop, not really a long track type race (which of course I wouldn't really attempt on local roads anyhow)..

and LOL on the "little guys"

I just got out of an e92 M3, never looked back

What has driving an M BMW to do with anything? I had quite a few myself ... the last one an M6 as my daily next to the CLK and a 997.2TT ... no matter what car, it means nothing when you don't know how to handle them. Take my advice before you hurt yourself or others.

Besides driving, reading isn't your strong suit either ... I already answered your question in my first post.

In regards to the "little" guys ... A friend of mine has a McLaren MP4. This morning we did some roll-ons against my CLK ... now that was fun

My absolute favorite is pushing the gas just enough to drift into a turn with ESP off and let the back slide out only to give it more gas to shoot out of the turn in a straight line like a bullet.

Im in the city and I drive with it off. my 335 is fine with the tc off. It does go crazy while launching but it's fine at high speeds. Knowing your care while drifting won't be the same as knowing at high speeds. Take it to a track if you get a chance to get to know your car.

I must admit i find my 12 a bit of a handfull at times.eg traveling at say 50km/h and you want to change lanes in a hurry because someone is stopped ahead and you put your foot down or in the wet, on a hill at lights. In both cases I find the car a challenge. Still only done 2300 kms so a lot to learn yet.

Great advice. Or better yet, just wave hi, rev your motor and then let the M rip away while you watch and laugh as he makes a fool of himself on the street. to the op - that's the thing with the street, it's not the place for egos. If you really want to do it take it to the track where egos are quickly quashed, you will learn alot..

Would love to hear how your BS didi with the MP4

I had this experience before haha...

I've found that turning the TC completely off and leaving it s+ is the fastest way to get off the line. roll into the gas and try to give the wheels just enough gas so that it has traction. After enough practice, I find it much faster than using race start.

This has been asked time and time again. Please learn how to handle your car first. I'd suggest maybe enrolling in some driving courses or AMG driving academy first. It will make your driving much better and you'll be able to really understand how your car performs or how to make it perform the way you'd like.
