Mother f***ing SF potholes
Long story short, driving around the Haight Ashbury tonight, there was apparently a TON of road construction on Stanyan, not marked of course, and the following happened to my front, left rim. I'm totally filing a claim with the city's department of public works, but damn, I just got some other curb rash fixed by HRE just last month.

Sorry to hear about ur wheels again CoolPh. It must be the most painful sound when u hit that pothole. Driving on 20 inch wheels & 25 series tires is too much headaches.

Tires are 235/30/20 and those are what came on the car with the rims. Now that this tire is gone, I'm getting Michelin Super Sports in 245/35/20. I was hoping they'd wear down first, not another pothole incident. I'm posting pics of the potholes so you can see what I'm up against.
Yes, I can work with the city of SF...did it before.

WTF?
That's retarded... how have they not patched that up yet?
Then again we have pretty bad potholes around too but not this bad....
Anyone on a bike can kill em self on that...

No signs that say "dip" or "unevenpavement". Just some big a$$ holes in the ground for 3 blocks. In the 2nd pic that's my car in the background to give you scale. Those holes are approximately 3-4 inches deep so I must have just clipped my rim on the edge of one of those holes. As I was taking pictures, I could hear traffic scrape after scrape as I was waiting them to pass so I could snap some photos.

That's really unfortunate. I'm not sure on SF policies regarding potholes but I know SD will reimburse you for damage done by potholes if you fill out some paperwork.

I'm going for the whole 9yds...full rim replacement, new front tires (since you can't just replace one), check suspension, check alignment, cost of shipping new tires and rim, cost of mounting and balancing. This guy is going to get to know me really well.

When you drive a car that matters to you, especially one sitting on 20s and 5000K worth of wheels you just gotta drive paying attention to the road at all times. Public roads are no joke and a total surprise at every turn. You truly NEVER know what the hell is in front of you...sandbags, a spare rim, road kill, holes, huge rocks, chairs, couches...etc.
You would be surprised what the heck I have seen and avoided on some roads just by driving with a little more attention to whats ahead of you. The road and others don't care about your car, its condition or its worth. It will throw everything at it just because it can...The track is a different story. A track is primed and maintained for the drivers.
My brother was driving on the highway 15 south San Diego with his brand new 5 Series when he didn't notice a spare just sitting in the middle of his lane and he flew over it at 75mph and totaled his car. Had he just paid attention a bit more ahead in the lane, he may of noticed it...
I lived in SF for 2 years, Hate and Ashbury roads sucked. Fishermans Warf roads SUCKED. Oakland roads (except for Walnut Creek) roads SUCKED. North Beach roads SUCKED. Heck 98% of downtown SF is absolutely a war zone with uneven pavement, pot holes, and gravel.

its truly embarrassing that CA collects so much money on taxes (possibly the most of any state) and has some of the wealthiest people using our roads in their very expensive cars, yet we have the worst potholes. WTF! I wish I could sue the state for negligence

I heard it's because Congress raided the road maintenance fund that are generated from gas sales. It used to be they'd get a cut of each gallon sold and it went directly to road maintenance, but I think politicians raided it to try to dig the state out of debt.
