Test Drove a C63 - WOW!!!!
I came across a 2009 C63 nearby and figured that I'd go check it out since I've always thought they were awesome cars. Needless to say, I'm very impressed with the car and am considering purchasing it. My question is, after looking at the Carfax a bit more closely, I'm getting a bit weary of some of the repairs that have been preformed. One thing that is putting me at ease just a bit is that the dealer is offering free engine & transmission coverage for as long as I own the vehicle, I'm taking that with a grain of salt. Below is a link to the Carfax, let me know what you think. What worries me is the lifters being replaced, front cover gasket being replaced and that the transmission had been serviced twice in the last 10k miles

Thanks in advance!

Maybe it has the new lifters now.
Id get more details about what was done to the tranny.
If a Benz dealer is offering that warranty on paper, what do you have to be worried about?

All good points to haggle on.

A repeated low coolant would be a sign... But that sensor for the low coolant has also been known to be finicky.
Also my tech friend said a little trick the techs use to get a half hour added onto the job is say it said low coolant and add some. So that could be going on.. unless its constantly needing coolant, than u got a problem.

Thank you for everyone's input thus far, much appreciated! I have just got off the phone with the service department at the dealer that did the service items that I'm most concerned about and have found out that the CarFax is a bit unclear.
Where the CarFax lists that the transmission had been removed for service, they had removed the transmission from the engine and removed the engine to replace the front cover gasket. Also where at 37k it lists that the valve cover gaskets and lifters had been replaced, the manager I had talked to said that there was a TSB tied to that service instance. They said that they were a bit noisy and the camshafts and lifters had been replaced.
This discussion makes me feel a bit more confident in the car. With a bit of the factory 50k mile warranty left, I may consider getting a 3rd party warranty before it's up.

carfax odometer readings are pointless sometimes. my mom's car was 1.5 years old and had 16k miles on it and when she moved to a new insurance the insurance woman said "I just want to confirm the Carfax report that the car has 36k miles on it and you are driving approx. 24K miles per year"
not saying it is always wrong, but that definitely got me thinking...

Vivid Racing '09 C63 AMG
I agree. I picked up my '09 from Vivid Racing for several reasons:
--the car had only one owner before VR
--the low mileage with spotless service records was reassuring
--there was al local dealer who did pre-purchase inspections for FREE (the free part was a bonus)
--the car had all the mods I wanted
This car sounds like it has changed too many hands and who knows how accurate the records are. Plus, it's obvious how much work has been done. Don't cut corners to save a few $.

my $.02: having lived in Texas I would personally try to avoid buying a car from Houston especially one with so many questionable repairs (gasket and value replaced?!!). Not only does it flood often but its very humid and probably not ideal for engine parts.

Lifters I believe were replaced for some people under warranty on these cars if you claimed issue under warranty. Due to some lawsuit I believe Mercedes had to replace lifters if they could re-create the owner's issues with them. It's probably better to have the new lifters rather than the old ones.
Gasket and what not is a completely different story.
