Want to pregame my car arrival.... :D

Hey everyone, i'm fairly new here. I tried a search with not much success. I will be picking up a c63 amg very soon. Just had a few questions for those of you that aren't newbs

Tuning: how can i tune it but not lose my warranty. In the jeep world we have handheld tuners that we can load the stock tune back onto the car when we take it to the dealer. I saw that is available for the benz as well.. My question is does an ECU tune void the warranty/ is it better? Just looking for opinions on which route i should go.

Also, exhaust, i like loud and obnoxious. And the c63 is loud but i need a little more. Just wondering in general are mercedes dealerships leanient with exhaust mods, or is this a, no no? Also what exhaust do you reccomend for abnoxious a-holes like me ?

Plese excuse my obliviousness, trying to learn.

Thanks in advance..

J

if you want REALLY loud, id say cat dele and long tube headers. that is really loud, and some might say its obnoxious. if you live in a populated area your neighbors wont like you much LOL!

There are handheld tunes you can flash back to stock. Velos, OE, and Eurocharged were offering holiday specials.

As for exhaust, headers and a cat delete would give you the sound you're looking for, but it would probably void your warranty. Unless you want to keep swapping exhausts whenever you need to take it in.

i currently have a cat delete/resonator delete/ straight pipes with an OE tune and its pretty loud. as far as the warrantee, itll most likely be voided, i could be wrong. my warrantee is voided at least but i have some close friends who work at mb here in ny so they would help me out if (knock on wood) something went wrong.

Thanks fellas! Seems like a cat delete is pretty popular option.

I guess handheld tuner it is

All depends on your dealership. Most dealers I have encountered are 100% OK with minor mods and won't even mention it. Doesn't hurt to slip a 20 in the ash tray when you bring it in for service.

However, even with the handheld tuners, Mercedes can see if the car has been flashed. This is directly from a senior AMG official. They try to be as accommodating as possible, but if something catastrophic does happen, you can expect your ECU will likely be sent to AMG for testing and analysis, and if they find it's been altered previously (and according to him, who has no vested interest in lying, they will) you may be SOL. The only 100% surefire way to protect your warranty is to not tune the car or ensure you get the P31 package.

I will second that. In the rare case you have a major failure and an MB warranty specialist is called in, MB will detect you tampered with ECU and adios warranty.
For exhaust mods, if you stay with just a resonator delete with X pipe, your warranty will be fine.
It really depends on your risk level acceptance. If you want to be 100% positive, then just get a P31 and a resonator delete.

For loud go with Eisenmann race. Consider your neighbors your enemy afterwards.

Ok that makes sense. I'm gonna have a hard time not tuning it. Thanks fellas!

I like the sounds of this, but i'm sure my warranty would be gone, right? Maybe i'll run up to the local MB dealer and have a chat....

Also keep in mind - they won't void the warranty totally, they would only have the right to elect to not fix the car if they have evidence your modification caused the problem. Throw exhaust on and the window stops working, they cant deny you. You're probably familiar with this but just in case.

Yeah, i'm pretty good at voiding my warranty, haha. But i do get what you are saying. The only thing is the benz will be my daily (for now) i just don't want to break it then have to pay big $$ b/c my jeep is a bottomless pit.
