How does the C63 sedan do in terms of space? I ask because my wife and I are expecting our first child in June so the SL will have to go. I'm thinking either a 2009 C63 or 2010 E63. My wife has a company Highlander that we usually take every where; I just need a sedan in case I ever need to take the baby somewhere and her car isn't available. That said, we will use her car 80% of the time. Is a C63 big enough for one car seat or should I get the E63?

Good enough for a car seat. Rear facing car seat. I bought mine after I fit the car seat in the rear and stroller in the trunk.

Congratulations on the new addition. It's a gamechanger, but you'll love every minute of it.

No problem with a rear facing car seat here either or trunk space for the stroller. It's a tight fit though. We got our 1 month old a britax chaperone, which is pretty bulky. We ended up strapping it down in the middle to leave room for the front and passenger seat adjustments.

Here's a quick pic for you, not a whole lot of room but infant car seats will fit in the middle.

fits very well. had an infant car seat and now we have a convertible car seat. Obviously the fit wont be as comfy as your wife's highlander but like you said, you only need it every so often

btw, my daugther likes the sound of the c63. smiles and laughs everytime I cold start or rev

What about coupes? Also new father, but I'm considering a CBS. We already have a Volvo XC60 so the BS will serve as a rare backup.

You're fine too... I have a car seat and a booster in my coupe. No issues... a little more difficult for access but as a back up, no big deal.

Thanks for the replies guys. My wife and I are going to the MB stealer today so we can check things out first hand. Like I said, she prefers the E63 for the simple fact that it's bigger. There could be worse alternatives, right?

the e63 is a fine machine so whatever you end up getting will be great!

if you however end up with a c63, make sure you tell your wife the $ you saved buying the c vs the e = money for mods

My wife wanted to get the E63 since had a E550 but after driving both she felt the C63 was the "right" car for me and her. She felt it was peppier and naughtier than the E63.

If I had a baby I would take E63. It's a bigger car, and it's safer than the small C63.

The little guy is 5 weeks old. He wakes up every 2 hours to eat like clockwork, pooping and peeing in-between. I just make up for my sleep deprivation by sleeping at work.

I'd personally be worried the force of acceleration on a C63 would snap my babies neck. So much so I just sold my wife's 5.7 V8 and bought her a 4x4. Could be over reacting but I don't think a C63 is a car meant for a baby!

Could very welll be but I would not put a few month old baby in a C63 running 530 HP and a resonator / secondary cat delete. Maybe a stock if at best. But it's not a car for a baby or family for that matter in my honest opinion. Too loud and not family orientated. I'd prefer my new born in a 4x4 That's just me though and drivers in Dubai are fu((*$n idiots.

That's what I'm saying. It's selfish to buy a C63 when you know you have a baby on the way. Get a big car.... E63/ML63....

we used the chicco key fit system, works fine, eventually move up to recaro convertable systems

the C class will suffice until more kids pop out, then get an E

5-yr old in a full booster in the back of my '13 coupe...no problems. Front seat moves up so far, it's easier to get into than it was in my '09 C230 sedan.

I have a 5 and 3 year old and have used recaro child seats and boosters through the last few years. If you are very Tall I would recommend the E63. I and wife are only 5'7" and 5'6" respectively, so our family with car seats fit fine. My kids love riding in the car, but most family outings and trips are in the X5.

I agree that if the car has a modified exhaust it will be too loud and uncomfortable for young kids. A stock car is not IMO. HP is irrelevant as it is only a factor if the driver is using the power and if kids are in the car then that person is an idiot. Driving responsibly in a 500 HP car or a 120 HP is the exact same thing.

Quote: That's what I'm saying. It's selfish to buy a C63 when you know you have a baby on the way. Get a big car.... E63/ML63....
This is a silly remark IMO

It isn't selfish to have a C63 as a backup car to get kids around in once in a while. The OP has a regular car for daily kid duties. A huge portion of North America tote their children around in lots of cars smaller than a C63... are all of those people selfish? The C63 is a safe car and as safe as most on the road. Lots of people would have a C250 or a C350 with young kids and no one would think anything of it. How is a C63 any different other than its capability. The only downside of the C63 is it is a little more inconvenient for this purpose. With a daily kid car in the family, who cares. If you argue the "safety" issue then most parents have a problem as they aren't all driving full sized family cars or SUVs. Although a C63 isn't as safe as a GL, it isn't an unsafe car for adults and children by any stretch of the imagination. If that were the case, I wouldn't drive in the car myself!!!

I can say I am absolutely not a selfish person relative to my children and I have no guilt and no concern with my 1 year old in the back seat once or twice a month. Having children in and of itself is an inherently unselfish act given how they change your life, your finances, your time, etc. Someday, when you have kids of your own, you will understand. Choosing a C63 as your vehicle that your kids might spend a little time in is not a selfish thing.

the c63 functions well as a family car.. i think too many of us forget that.. ultimately it is just a c class and a c class is a decent family car. however i agree with you. a SUV will be tons better for normal baby driving duties. just like the op has a highlander, my wife drives a GLK. besides space for the car seat, a suv has other benefits over a sedan... even a e class:
  • more carrying capacity (diaper bag, stroller, etc etc)
  • higher up so you dont break your back reaching in and out for the baby
the stroller we bought for our daugther takes up pretty much the entire trunk of the c class. fits well + lots of spare room in the glk... although we have been thinking of going up to the GL in a year or so. you can never have enough space when it comes to kids

as for the other poster... i dont think anyone is 'guilty' of being selfish here the day you become a father you will understand... the feeling that you will do absolutely anything for your child and ensuring his/her well being will be a top priority. however, if you can mix well being with a bit of flair, why not? An example would be strollers. the majority of the strollers you see out there imo just suck. child sits low to the ground, the workmanship is poor and the strollers are ugly as heck. We decided to spring for a Stokke stroller so when we take her out to the park or shopping, not only does she sit more comfortable but also more comfortable for us as well... and yes we get compliments where ever we go.

Hopefully Im a few years away from this. Im sure it would be fine as others have stated. Plus if the car is mostly for your use you will have lots of fun in the C63!
