I have no charcoal with K@N...no issues ever...

It may be luck of the draw...

followed that DIY 100% and AFE filters with charcoal delete. No CEL 2012 c63 with 2011 afe pro dry s. I just got them so I started it up only once and drove it for about 10 minutes. Will repost if things change.

How about 2011 AFE dry filters on a 2009 sedan? Will this work?
Anyone has tried this already?

I was looking up this before I bought mine, and I saw that someone put a 2011 afe filter on a 2010, not saying it will work but I feel like it should work.

What can be the difference between the 2009/2010/2011/2012 filters? Size wise they should be the same right?

Guys, apologize in advance for jumping into this thread but just wonder if you guys know the R230 SL500 have any type of charcoal filter? I would assume NO since it would make no sense to filter the cabin air on a convertible.

it takes several starts and run cycles for the car to test itself.

the charcoal filter has nothing to do with the cabin air filter.

Hey guys did the charcoal delete on my O8 E63 AMG and a set of K&N's had no issues of CEL, but after a few days I got a CEL light. I had not issues with the drivabuilty and performance, with the K&N's and charcoal delete it feels like it picked up in power and throttal responce. I have the car dynoed before it put down 405whp 411wtq and with the filter delete and K&n's in it made 421whp 422wtq on a dyno jet.

I have heard guys do secondary cat delete and xpipe and eurocharged tune so thats the next step.

P.S. CEL light went off after 85 miles driven on the car

Thanks,

Eric

Boils down to this.
If your gonna mod your car you will run risks ( big or small )
The only way you won't have that issue is to leave it stock.

Just took my car in for check up after having a CEL for over 2 months after I got my K&N air filters.

They say its because of air leaking intake manifold gasket. I guess the K&N filters are no problem

Also could someone explain what effects will that air leak intake manifold gasket cause? I noticed after the service, my cars gotten louder and smoother. Maybe because of new oil as well it's gotten noticeably louder after few hours of driving after the service

I had the manifold gasket leak when I got my car. They swap out the gasket and update the minifold bolts too.

post back after they fix it. the first time I installed my filters I let the shop check it and they also replaced the gaskets. I put the filters in again and the cel came on again. I think the codes that are caused by both are the same.

having same problem on e63 with shifts and bucking, k&n's with charcoal delete

The trans shifts off of torque request logic which is ultimately derived off the MAF signal, so if it doesn't like the airflow vs maf hz then you are screwed.

I threw the KNs away.

It seems like some of these cars have a wider tolerance for fuel trims than others. Not sure if it is a variation in operating systems in the ECUs or what, but there are some that can run filters with no issue. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

I ran K&N's and they didnt throw any check engine lights for me, but, after my mods I ran into a hesitation problem on the dyno and while driving under gradual acceleration. After talking with Serge at Benzworks again we decided to throw back in the stock filters. The car is actually running stronger than ever without any bucking.... Should I jump right back into some aFe's?

If you do. Get the pro 5r. They are oiled but they are better more air flow.

So I removed my charcoal filters about a week ago and then a CEL came on. I took it to the dealer and they told my the same story about the intake manifold leaking. They cleared the code and will need to order parts, etc. In the meantime my aFe dry S arrived and I installed them...and the CEL pops up again. Not sure if it's actually the manifold or related to the charcoal/aFe swap. They never told me the actual codes. Drives just fine.

So after driving it all weekend with the CEL on this morning it didn't come on. Have driven it a couple of different times throughout the day and stays off. I'm guessing it has something to do with the charcoal/aFe filter mods and not the intake manifold leak like the dealer was saying. I'll keep an eye on it but for now I'm CEL free!

I've seen it happen before...just need to make sure filter and box is seated flush...any offset could throw it. Car adaption too to more air could mean your car may have "learned" recently. I would disconnect batter and do a hard reboot. This helped with my transmission shifting issue when I have a tune applied.
